I ordered a DM 1930’s Budweiser stake truck (‘38 Ford), online auction. The model arrived today and it was obvious it was brand new with the papers The problem is, it didn’t contain the 40 keg accessory box and there was no cut out for the box under the stake pack. My initial assumption is that it’s maybe an early issue that didn’t include the kegs. Any thoughts?

I'm NO expert on these like Tony P., for example, but years ago while considering a 1/24 project I was looking into these:

It's my understanding that they were always issued with the "40 keg pack"  - sliver barrels, AND you do have the "cut out"  for them on the top side of that foam insert (see RED CIRCLE pic ).

Here's a MIB example showing exactly how yours should look if it were truly "MIB."     Again, I'm NO expert, however, it appears someone pirated that keg box - as is sometimes the case.   😔 😔 😔

Undoubtedly Tony P. can provide the definitive answer; mine is simply a good-educated-guess.

Half Congrats on the great acquisition but Mr. "No Expert" Chris is expertly 100% correct. You're missing the small box. Ask the seller if he inadvertently missed it or is willing to adjust the deal price if he doesn't have it.

I have been wanting this truck as well to finish by Budweiser collection.  There is one currently on Ebay and they do not show the box with the kegs, only the stake bed railings, even though they say it is new in the box with certificate.

@carsman1958

Shame. More than once I have seen the barrel set for sale on its own.

@carsman1958 ...just one among thousands of inaccurate and/or misleading eBay listings.   Like every other purchase - one must do their homework BEFORE finalizing the transaction.   Fraud (intentional or not ) is rampant like never before; it's increasing at an alarming rate.   AS ALWAYS:

@perrone1 Thanks Tony, for your EXPERT confirmation. 👍    I just happen to know about this particular DM truck; therefore, I was compelled to chime in.   For ALL other queries, I defer to you good sir.  😉

@perrone1 Tony, This is still a mystery to me. There is no way the barrels could have been in the styrofoam shell, where the barrel box should have been is totally solid. I actually had this model a few years back and stupidly sold it when I needed money for a different model. I remember that the barrel box fit into a hollow on the top of the shell. Another strange thing, the model number on the box is shown as 821-007 which is different than the actual 821-15, and the model # on the shell is blank. Possible prototype?

@kevins Possible prototype but more likely two different products. The Mint's made running changes during and after initial production and it's possible that they either added the barrels to a later run or vice versa.

I have this GMC stake bed with barrels, but I have no idea where the packaging is. Sorry.

Well.... there were at least two different internal packing methods for the silver barrel accessory pack on these DM 1/24 1930 trucks; I suspect yours was the early version which featured "machine cut"  black foam (black foam was a common packing material for DM ).

I can only assume DM realized they could save money and subsequently switched to that white box.     Again, I'm no expert...   but in my pea brain, it's just a running packaging change.

Furthermore, the foam cradle in your pic has a separate white foam "rectangle"  that lifts out (see pic with RED X )  lift that out and you'll see where your barrels should be - OR - you might even find your barrels.  😀 😀 😀 😀

@kevins We're all curious - well, OK - I WANT TO KNOW.   Did you lift out your foam rectangle to discover an empty pocket - OR - your silver barrels?

Important update from the village idiot… I’m going into hiding for a few months after this post, hopefully you will all forget about this. Yes indeed, the thin top cover did come off revealing the void where the keg box was supposed to be. After some back and forth with the seller he had simply forgot to replace the kegs years ago, but managed to find them. He will be sending them along tomorrow and all will be good. Thanks for all of your help and support in this matter. I may be dumb but at least I have friends!

@carsman1958 This one is on eBay right now, it was my go to if the one in mention fell through. I’ve already checked with the seller and he claims it’s new and all there. It’s the best deal you’ll find right now.
