[Closed] Danbury's Boss 429 in Raven Black

Great photos of one of my favorite models too. Like the Mopar street HEMI, the Boss 429 wasn't ...

... a very good street engine. In fact, it wasn't a good race engine either and never achieved the performance impact of the earlier SOHC powerplant.

Not to be contentious at all please... But, the two Hemi's

I had personal experience were very streetable cars tome.
A good friend's '69 Road Runner (which he allowed me to drive many times, as back in the '70's these cars were not worth too much).
And I owned a '70 cuda from 1975 to 1977.
Both were quiet ( at normal speeds) easily handled, started ok in the am.
And could be driven as a daily driver. It was maintenance cost and frequency that was a bigger headache for owners than on other engines.
Especially the pre 1970 Hemi's. the 429 ford was never built in the numbers, nor easily de tuned to be very manageable on the street.
Chrysler learned this back in early '60's with Ramcharger/super commando 413, and 426 wedge super stock engines.

Nah, just a fun discussion. I recall how the car mags routinely slammed...

... the streetability of the HEMI. The car mags reasoned it was supposedly very difficult to keep in tune, and burned oil like crazy. I remember reading about how Don Garlits had the Charger 500 but yanked the HEMI out of it and installed the more managable 440 Magnum instead. I know when I came across a HEMI in a street race that I had no problem with them in with my 429 SCJ Mach 1. But obviously, your personal experience with the HEMI was different so I trust what you're saying is probably more accurate.

Looks much better with the Goodyear white letter tires.

Great pics...where did you get the tires? The model came with blackwalls and these look great!
