If one ever wondered just how perfectly Danbury Mint replicated the 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible, just look at this story from CARS & PARTS magazine.  The car in the story is a drop-dead gorgeous duplicate of Danbury's model.  Author Bob Stevens shares his always informative insight in to this iconic collectible automobile.

Of the many automotive magazines I've collected over the years, CARS & PARTS was always one of my favorites.  Published by Amos Press, CARS & PARTS ceased publication some years back and then was reinvented in other formats.  In its day, it was (in my opinion) one of the best sources for its dedication to the old car hobby.

I can't help but think the Danbury Mint might have used the car (or one exactly like it) for their prototype of their model.

One of the most popular cars ever, I believe I was about 12 when my dad bought a used 57 four door hardtop. Just looked it up, the color was Canyon Coral.

@iragill

I think most of us can admit to having fond memories of the cars our parents drove when we were kids.  I know I do.  And no doubt those memories influenced our idea's of what were great cars, and some not so great too.
