This 1935 Mercedes-Benz Wo7 "Grosser" Pullman Sedan ordered for Emperor Hirohito of Japan was thr first W07 to be armored and one of the few ordered without a supercharger. It's adorned with gold chrysanthemuns which is the dynastic symbol of the Japanese emperors. It now resides in the Daimler-Benz museum.
This Franklin Mint model is one of those "me too" models that was released after the far superior Paul's Model Art/Xonex release. I tried for a while to purchase either the PMA or Xonex branded model but kept getting a damaged model. A recent eBay offering was labeled as "Mint" and then proceeded list the number of parts missing or damaged. As far as the FM model, the exterior looks pretty nice as the sparsity of detail resides in the interior.
I have this one. I have never seen the Paul's Model Art in person so I have never had the chance to compare the two...thanks for the info.
Bob, Rich here is the interior of the PMA version. Difficult to see as the doors don't open far. Fantastic detail, especially considering the models age. My photos of course are not up to Richs standard, but hopefully you can see the pattern on the rear seat, the velvet carpet appears as true 1/24 fleck, the dash is 3D and check out the true to scale door handles. Also I think the maroon shade of the PMA car is closer to the original than FMs red. I've had the FM version since release but after seeing PMAs I tried for ages to get this one as it is a magnificent vehicle of historical significance. As Rich says an intact model it is really hard to find, this one actually arrived with the front wheels off but Mat my skilled modeler friend was able to restore it to mint condition. There is also a green version around that is very rare.
gentlemen there is a Xonex 1/24 model on ebay now that looks MIB at a very reasonable price.
