Let's just say IF precision die-cast as we know it has become passe

If we find out that DM has thrown in the towel, as we know TFM is more or less GONE from diecast 1:24th, how do you feel about this? YES there are many many cars I would have liked to see made BUT I have also accumlated a substantial collection of over 250 1:24th die-cast models. That said perhaps it's time I be happy and enjoy what I have and not want to seek much more. I was actually wondering and thinking HOW MANY cars I will have in 5-10 years if DM had been keeping up launching new releases at the rate they were the past few years! For one I would have run out of money and secondly WHERE would I have put another 60-100+ cars??? I honestly have mixed feelings about this glut were having! What are YOUR feelings about this topic? I strangely have a sense of relief now. It's almost like an addict coming to grips with his vices! LOL

I'm glad for the slow down, I couldn't have kept up with all the new releases as they were. I would be happy to see maybe a new release per quarter, but I have my doubt's that'll happen. Heck, even one every six months would satisfy me, lol. I've gotten back into building 1:24 scale models and am quite happy. It gives me some sense of accomplishment and occupies some of my free time, especially with winter coming on. Just my two cents.

Actually that very thought has crossed my mind also.

I am sorry to say all of my FM and DM cars are still in the boxes and I pull them out from time to time. When they delivered them I would inspect them for a couple of days shown them to friends that might have some interest, (which are very few, thats why I like this board). I do have some dealer promos on the shelf along with a couple of 1/18th's, they just collect dust.
Now here is the weird thing, I visit this site often to see what the other junkies are posting. The detailed pictures of new models is almost and I repeat almost, as good as pulling them out of the box and holding them for a few minutes then putting them back in the box for another day.
By the way I used to have about 50 1/43rd and about 10 DM/FM models displayed, but, unfortunately they were stolen a few years ago, so, that is another reason why I am a little reluctant to display them.
What I am collecting now because of the demise DM/FM is the American Excellence collection. They are easier on the wallet and they offer many products the I like and come in stackable display cases so you can display many and not take up much room. The detail is great IMO and even though they don't have the working features, engines and chassis detail I really enjoy them.

Now is the time to trim the tree

I have probably 85 1/24 on display, plus another 50 1/18, plus probably a couple dozen more still in boxes. I am flat ass out of room, but I think this is the time to augment the collection with the recent images I don't have and want, and delete starting from the bottom to make room. Eventually, like plastic promos, these cars will disappear from the market or deteriorate(!) making what we have left quite valuable.

Charlie Im surprised you said your just about out of room?

I remember seeing pics of your Lincoln in the driveway of what I believed was your house and it looked HUGE! Keep in mind huge to someone who lives in NYC were average typical attached homes are about 1200 sq ft (not counting basements) and detached homes here are typically 1,500-1,800 SQ FT. Common lot sizes here are 30x100 feet, 40x100 ft, 20x100 feet and 18 x 100 feet. Read this as we don't have much land here in Queens NY or any of the city left for the most part!

OR .... perhaps the Ms. only lets you have ONE designated areas for your 1:24th models. In that case I TOTALLY understand 😉 hee hee

Sounds like denial to me, Phil..

...I hear that the first step in recovery is to admit you have a problem and then use that awareness to avoid imbibing in spite of the availability of the sauce. What you're saying is that in the absence of said sauce, you're going to quit. Which of course puts the cart before the horse...without the vice there's no choice other than withdrawal.

I'm sad DM is AWOL...I'm not quite ready to admit they're gone for good, surely the experiences of WCPDI and GMP...much smaller and less intensive organizations... indicate that there are manufacturers of high quality die cast still out there...but when a source of delight is no longer available, it's a loss, even if we have to adjust to it and use a bit of denial to cover that loss.

I've augmented my spending on 1:43 and slowly but surely will liquidate most of my 1:24 to have room for the smaller cars keeping only those that I really like big-time. Scale to me isn't as important as overall semblance to the real thing. There are members here that have said from now on only high end diecast. That usually means going to a larger scale. CMC etc. Space constraints make me shy away from any more of the larger scale cars and with there being no 1:24 to speak of that puts me in the smaller scale. One of the good things about going smaller is that as a rule I can get two little guys for the price of a DM.This make any sense to anybody?

I'll certainly miss DM and FM but..........

I'll continue to purchase models of cars in any material and any scale as long as the vehicle appeals to me and the model is well done (proportion and finish, etc.)
I really do enjoy the Neo/ American Excellence line of vehicles and in the last couple of years, they've been the bulk of my purchases.
The main sorrow I feel about the dirth of 1/24 diecasts is that they were, in my estimation, the best value for quality and detail of all the scales. In 1/43 scale, I find that some of the prices of quality models is far more than I'm willing to pay for that level of detail, and the MSRP prices for the high end 1/18 (CMC, Exoto, etc.) have climbed so high recently, that I only purchase them when they're on sale.
For me, DM brought some of the most outstanding bargains to the marketplace and I'll continue to cherish them.

its kinda of a bumber for me, would have love DM to finish the Corvette line.

Still missing 73 76 77 85 87 89 90 91 92 94. I know Danbury Mint would have done better on the 80's Corvettes and later 70's than FM as well.

It makes sense to me, Tom......

I was never tied to a specific scale although I do have a fondness for 1/24 for full size automobiles especially as collecting land yachts in 1/18 is a total space killer. I was always very selective with 1/43. In days gone by, most were too toy-like. Now there are 1/43 with operating features that if I photographed them side-by-side you're be hard pressed to tell the difference. I do like my racing models and sports cars in 1/18.
The main think that drives me in collecting is the particular image.

well, I am done in 1/24 scale if DM is not coming back.....

I am not interested in curbside model no matter the image or the price.

CMC 1/18 scale is my option for high precision models and I am very happy with.....a couple of models every year and I am happy.

For sure, the subjects are limited for somebody not open to foreign design but it's all worth the money.

Actually, I THINK THE PROBLEM IS:

I have run out of shelf space. And wall space to put shelf space. Restricted to two rooms.

Don't forget guys the key word here is IF

I dont know any better then anyone else if DM will be back. I do know that their CS reps have told me that they still want to be able to provide and offer cars but have no further info as to WHEN they will do so. This obviously is a definitely maybe, but can also be read as a possible NEVER AGAIN! So... I was just curious how other collectors felt about this situation!
