When it was announced that Kaiser Wilhelm ll had abdicated, it was news to him. He and his wife took a train to neutral Netherlands so the politicians could work out an armistice. After the war was over, Queen Wilhelmina refused to extradite him to the allies and he and his second wife settled into and estate in Doorn. His second wife made the mistake of petitioning Adolf Hitler to re-institute the monarchy before Hitler assumed total power in 1933. After the Weimar Republic failed, there was a movement to restore the monarchy, so Hitler had Himmler and his Gestapo threaten him to keep quiet and make no public appearances. Before he died in 1941, he was virtually under house arrest. In 1932 the Kaiser purchased this Mecedes-Benz 770 "Grosser" WO7 Cabriolet. Because of his affinity to the Kriegsmarine (Navy) he had it painted in the Naval "Dunkelgrau" or Dark Gray and replaced the tri-star hood ornament with the 300 year old Hohenzollern dynastic crest. I'm not sure he was able to drive it outside his grounds. This "Grand Mercedes" cabriolet now resides in the Mercedes Benz Museum.
Prior to joining the D4C, my source for 1/24 diecasts was the 2 Mints. One day, I went to a show looking for other scales when I saw two 1/24 models that blew me away: the CMC Trossi "Black Prince" and this Paul's Model Art Kaiser Mercedes. I bought them both and now was aware that 1/24 diecasts had international sources. I began to research internet sources and that's when I found you guys.
Very nice pics of this model and the 1:1s back story. And good to hear of your history in the model car collecting world. Thanks Rich 👍
Steve
great historical insight into the background of the car, thanks Rich. Sits at the front of my Mercedes shelf.
Interestingly I too found the CMC Trossi "Black Prince" in a local model/hobby shop. Couldn't believe my luck. I'd see an odd reference to CMC on the internet. Recalling finding this site. Tony had just posted his review of FMs yellow 2003 Corvette. Became the first of many, many "I gotta have one of those" responses to Tonys pics and reviews. I also recall the DM 1957 Cloud White 300C Chrysler being voted model of the year!
Ahhh; the 'Good Old Days'!great historical insight into the background of the car, thanks Rich. Sits at the front of my Mercedes shelf.

@perrone1 I'm not sure of the year (Tony?), but I joined the same time that the D4C was taking orders for the Gold Corvette club car. I really didn't care for for that year Vette nor the model itself so I passed, so now, regrettably, it's the only club car I don't have.
Thank you Rich for both the Kaiser’s history, his fine Mercedes and your own personal history regarding the D4C. I look forward each time I go to our website to your fact and image filled posts.
Wonderful pictures writeup and model. Don't have this one but I do have the Black Prince.
