Monogram  1924-1930 Bugatti 35B in 1/24 scale plastic.

Going through one of my deep storage drawers in my workroom, I rediscovered this plastic model that I built over 50 years ago. A note that I left with it states that I built it in August, 1972. I remember that I had just completed teaching a rather arduous Statistics and Measurement six week course that summer to adult students, mostly teachers and nurses, and I made a change of pace building several kits at that time.

Here it is, a little dusty. I did not open the detailed engine as I did not want to disturb the old straps. It came with a standing driver and a green sponge base but these are not shown here.

This 1972 third release of the classic Monogram Bugatti 35B from the "Museum Piece Series" was certified by the Bugatti Club of England as authentic. Developed and manufactured in the French factory of Italian automotive pioneer Ettor Bugatti, the 35B was one of the most successful racing cars or its time. From 1924 to 1930 Bugatti race cars claimed an impressive number of victories over larger cars in major European races. This model can be assembled stripped to reproduce an authentic Targa Fiorio Grand Prix racer or as a street version with fenders, road lamps, and windscreens. Hood removes to show jewel-like detail of the engine. I built the street version.

I no longer have the box but here is one from the internet. I imagine this kit was reissued a few times.

Awesome David - great build! And I like the little bit of dust; it gives it an authentic & realistic racing patina.

David I built the same model at least fifty years ago. I always had a preference for Monogram models because most of them were 1/24 scale.

absolutely superb David! Great original build obviously as it has been preserved so well. Hope you have continued to build, or will maybe resurrect the pastime?
