More to color/MARK II

Bill Ford did not have an interest in the Detroit Lions until 1964, well after the creation of his personal Mark II, Honolulu Blue, as a 'marketing' name, appeared as a Buick color, 1942-48. Here's the list of colors, which is pretty banal, for the Mark II. Who is the authority on this color? I think maybe there is a B.S. component here, IMHO.

1956 Lincoln Mark II Continental Paint Color Codes

Code Color Name PPG Code
01 Black 9000
02 Cobalt Blue Metallic 11454
04 Pastoral Blue 11456
05 Forest Green Metallic 41892
07 Naiad Green 41894
08 Briar Brown Metallic 21226
10 Sandalwood 21228
11 Dark Gray Metallic 31332
13 Dark Red 50429
14 Starmist White 8112
15 Medium Blue 11455
16 Medium Green 41893
17 Medium Beige 21227
18 Medium Gray 31333

1956 Lincoln Mark II Continental Two-Tone Paint Combinations
The upper color is first, the lower color is second

Black/Medium Blue
Forest Green Metallic/Medium Green
Briar Brown Metallic/Medium Beige
Dark Gray Metallic/Medium Gray
Dark Gray Metallic/Starmist White

Charlie-The car was painted in his teams color.

It really doesn't matter when Bill took an interest in the Lions. His car was painted their official color which was and still is "Honolulu Blue". Whether it was a "marketing gimmick" or they borrowed the name from GM, who knows. And Tony agrees.

Goody

I'd really like to see where the hyperbole from FM on this car came from. It's not that I don't believe it, I just have an authenticity problem with the mints from time to time. Like the narrow whitewalls on the '61 Lincoln, the 'B' pillars on the Mercury TPC and some other stuff we've mostly forgotten.

If you went to the artical which was linked to this BB it told of William Clay Ford retiring from

Ford Motor Company at some where around age 72 or 73. The suggestion at the time was get his signature so it would be a "Real Collectible" I'm not sure of the relationship to Billy Ford who was Head at Ford prior to Alan Mullally. but we are talking about two different people.

It's Amazing How Far Off Track We Can Get

Like passing a message along a line of people it comes out totally different at the end. William Clay Ford, son of Edsel, brother of Henry II, was head of the Continental Division that produced the MArk II. He remained for many years a Ford Director. This is the man to whom we are relating the 'Honolulu Blue' Mark II. His son, William Clay Ford Jr. 'Billy', was until last year the Chairman of Ford. Having it all get screwed up under his leadership, they brought in Alan Mulaney from Boeing, who will finish screwing it up.

Bill Ford is still Chairman; Mulaly is CEO. And you haven't seen the new ..

products coming. I saw some of them before I retired.

Remember, Visteon is our main supplier, and financially more healthy than GM's Delphi (that declared bankruptcy). And the parent company Ford has a large cash balance and lines-of-credit for a lot more to weather this storm. News media is out-to-lunch on this.

I think Bill Ford did a good job, but business conditions require an engineering type at the CEO position to bring all the new products to market. Another good decision on his part to bring in an experienced executive with engineering background.

Lack of product was a legacy we live with from Jacque Nasser, not Bill Ford.

Charlie-I agree

I too would like to know the facts of this model. Was this really a car built for WCF? Or, as you say, just a marketing gimmick. I can't envision FoMoCo allowing licensing of the production of this model if there weren't some historical fact surrounding it. I just have no idea where you would find that information. And I agree that there is no color of that name on FoMoCos list of colors for that year but, then again, if this was in fact a car built for WCF, I'm certain he could have it painted any color he wanted, if indeed any of the "blues" offered for that year, were not or did resemble the color of the Lions. And just think what a PR coup this would have been. Here's WCF, driving around Detroit with the colors of his foorball team. As a matter of fact, the Detroit Lions won the NFL championship in 1957(also the last time). As for the other errors you pointed out, they were simply production errors, not deliberate attempts at falsehood.

Thanks for the perspective, I have become bearish on the US cars companies, Chrysler announced big cut backs and layoffs and product discontinuances yesterday. I've been a Lincoln owner for many years. The only product Lincoln has with any appeal for me is the Navigator, with the '49 Chrysler grille and the Muntz Jet chrome side pieces. So while I like the truck I don't much like the style.

Not suggesting falsehoods on those errors, just pointing out that they don't really get the details correct sometimes. With respect to the blue Mark, I've seen a lot of them at LCOC shows, never one in that color.

Could it be WCF never showed his car? Further no one said when it was painted it has another engine in it which was not even manufactured till much later indicating to me it was some Resto Rod or such of a Restoration possibly of a car he owned for some time. MarkII were unique cars so maybe he parked it in a garage till the thing was resurrected?
These Posts seem to alude to it was Manufactured in 57 which how did they do that with the engine that is in it?
The Artical which was linked on this BB seemed to state it was a Gift of Ford Motor upon his retirement in the late 90's I don't remember and can't find the link. Somebody who is better than I maybe you will dio all of us a favor and find that link and artical??? Thank You.

Like I said I want to buy something with Pizzaz & Detroit doesn't have anything

Unfortunate as I want to buy American TOO! so I will not buy from the current Crop. Chrysler needed to do that cut! They have been designing the ugliest cars recently, Sebring all models when put near the old one anyone would think they want the old one as the new one is Butt Ugly. That Caliber is atrocious as for the Junior Jeep well it's not selling well. Marketed to Women and they have few takers here. Prowlers vwere overpriced as a specialty and the Crossfire lacks something called Pizzaz. Even the new Vans are regressions too square. The exception in the car business is Toyota some how sold the Kids a Scion Box on wheels was Beautiful, UCK! Not my cup of tea! The Grand Wagoneer is fine but that "Commander", to compete with Hummer, it's ugly too & doesn't come close to it's name. Hummers lack Style but have some degree of usefulness and function the Jeep Commander is a Me Too! Jeep invented the segment and Chrysler screwed it up. My son works for a Dealer and the sales rates are so off he says it's pitiful and they have nothing to sell. He's a Journryman Tech so he is not selling anything but his expertise at service of cars. Read Mechanic! Chrysler is in sad shape and still trying to win the UGLY CONTEST! Good Luck!

No Jerry God help Me! Just those ugly cars from Chrysler

They need a good dose of Pizzaz. If you don't think so then I respect your opinion but Chrysler needs to sell something. They have to rely upon us each putting our money where our mouth is. I'm not going anywhere near Chrysler Dealers & Not out of Fear just can't appreciate the case of Uglies they have. Others do too so while you think i'm singleing them out I was just pointing to their poor sales. Their Three Hundred is the exception it is nice not "Beautiful" but "Pretty"
