The 1942 Chrysler Windsor Town & Country Estate Wagon had production limited to 999 units before Chrysler converted for the war effort. It was called to "Barrel Back" for the clam shell design of its rear door. It was the first wagon to have an all steel rood and the wood body was composed of ash stiles and rails with panels of Honduran mahogany. It was powered by a 108 HP 241.5 cid "Spitfire" inline flat head 6 cylinder mated to a semi-automatic "Fluid Drive" transmission. It came in both 6 and 9 passenger configurations with an MSRP of $1412 and $1492 respectively. Experts put the number of survivors at somewhere between 16 and 19. Top auction price for a 9 passenger was $462,000. with others going from 200 to 300 grand.
This Danbury Mint model of the 9 passenger T&C is just gorgeous and well crafted with leather interior folding second tier seating and operating panels with minimal shut lines.
Wouldn't this be the best surfer wagon ever?
Fabulous model exceeded only by your review. Love both the black and green.
