In 1936, SS Cars LTD of Coventry, England released their first generation SS 100 roadster. The "100" was to showcase its 100 mph potential. With its 2.5 liter inline 6, it wasn't going to get close to that mark. The 1938 SS 100 now packed a 3.5 liter 6 and the car now officially reached 101 mph. For its touted prowess, the car was given the marque of 'Jaguar'. The first SS 100 with the leaping car ornament became a 16th birthday gift to King Michael l of Romania.

Later is was decided to give the SS 100 a Jaguar hood ornament designed to look like "a cat shot off a fence". The first SS 100 with the leaping car ornament became a 16th birthday gift to King Michael l of Romania. Production of the SS 100 ceased in 1939 as war production ramped up. Only 116 of the 3.5 L version were built and the survivors command 7 figures.

This Franklin Mint model is 38 years old and by later standards is relatively crude. I remember when I bought it way back when, I was impressed with the metal mesh gravel guards over the radiator and headlamps. The build quality is reasonably well done and... it looks cute!

This was one of my first Franklin Mint models and I loved the front detail and interior. For the time it looked good although the incorrect rear wheel fender arches have always disturbed me. Nicely presented as always Rich.
