This Brass Era 1907 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Touring Sedan is a perfect example of the "horseless carriage" design.... replace the engine with a horse and you have the classic horse drawn carriage. It was a workable and familiar design the worked well when automobiles could barely outrace a horse, but as horsepower increased (by consumer demand), the high center of gravity made these cars unsafe maneuvering at higher speeds when the rich clientele chose to race each other on a Sunday morning on the way to church services. So newer designs brought the body down on the frame to lower the center of gravity... marking the end of an era.
Wow! How good is that, mine is undergoing minor but expert repair and will be back on display soon. We, correctly, laud the detail on DMs later efforts but FMs brass era cars were outstanding with their detail some years earlier. Check out that interior. Thanks Rich, fabulous photo presentation.
geoff I totally agree with your comments regarding FMs brass era cars...they were outstanding as witnessed in Rich's equally outstanding pictures. I'm so glad that I was around when these cars were being made by FM and was smart enough to buy them.
That looks like an amazing model-one I considered getting but never did.

Classy pictures Rich. If not for the FM prewar cars, I would've switched already to 1:18... This model was designed by Roger Hardnock and it is a rendering of a real car. I have found only one picture of the real 1:1 in a Pebble Beach program. Later the car was issued in period correct more catchy maroon color, designed by Raffi Minasian. However, to my knowledge, the maroon model does not have a 1:1 prototype.
The reviews are hard to find these days, this one was easy by searching the model year: Model Details – The Diecast Zone
I sold this one sometime ago, hence the packing plastics.
@chav That's certainly a period color. I was unaware they did a repaint.
