Back in the early 1950s, we had 3 NY based networks and one local TV station (that later became PBS). Nightly news was 1/2 hour and there were 2 choices: John Cameron Swazye selling Timex Watches and Douglas Edwards hawking Oldsmobiles. The show began and ended with the 3-D image of the ringed globe which somehow fascinated me. If I wasn't 9 years old in '55, I might have bought this Rocket 88 convertible just for the good ornament ... although I have to say it was in hot competition with the illuminated Pontiac Star Chief hood ornament which a neighbor had bought. Way back when, I bought this Super 88 convertible from Danbury Mint... just for the memories. It's a pretty nice model featuring some nice castings for the badging and even the door escutcheons. The dash is also nicely replicated. what's really cool are the tiny Oldsmobile lettering in the grill.
A beauty indeed Rich. I love the red/white color combo. It looked so good on many 50's era cars and trucks.💯👍
So sad DM never did a 1955 '98'. I only have one toy car in 1:43 scale of a 1955 Olds '98'. Scale models of the 1955 Olds '88' are extensive, not one '98'.
