I like the huge cuffs on the blue jeans. When I was a young kid I recall "the big guys" dressed like this. I recall some guys used to flick their cigarette ash into those cuffs when no ashtrays were available. Lol.

You have a keen eye Jack! John Wayne wore jeans like that in more than one of his westerns. Living in Texas all those years, I noted many working cowboys did the same. They stored nails and assorted fencing repair items in those cuffs.
I just stashed my extra .45 Colt cartridges in mine - HA!
