@pete-rovero Love the repaint. Most of the FM police cars have badges of FOP, never understood why, technically such 1:1 police cars don't exist.

@chav Thanks Chav. Franklin Mint took some liberties with their police series cars for sure. I’m not sure any of them ever existed in the real world, although the California Highway Patrol did have a fleet of  Camaros and Mustangs for a time.

@geoff Thank you sir!  The wheels are Pontiac Rally II wheels from a DM 1967 GTO with the redline tires painted white. Pontiac used the Rally II wheels on various models thru the early 1980’s.

Pete, I get that part and that is OK, many countries use sports cars as police cars. However, FOP (Fraternal Order of Police) is professional organization not a law enforcement institution. This is like to put the logo of ACP (American College of Physicians) on a van and call it an ambulance.

IMHO, these police cars FM made are fit best in the toys/kitsch category, great source for repaints.

@chav

Oh, OK, I get you now.  I didn't make the FOP connection.  Thanks for clarifying.

Question of the day: Do you enjoy toy cars because you like real cars?

@lu yes, definitely, but I also have other reasons, Firstly while my collection is 95% cars I still term it a vehicle collection, including trucks, boats, trailers and recently tractors. I appreciate pretty much anything skillfully recreated in miniature. I have a huge interest in what I term the social history of the car. I have an appreciation of quality aesthetic design, but also functional and even wacky vehicle design. I also have a keen in interest in the actual history of the car, from the first Benz to current alternative fuel vehicles.

Good question, hope to hear more responses.

Thanks @geoff-jowett & @perrone1. I'm probably an outlier here - I like cars, but I definitely prefer model cars a little more. Hope to see more responses from others.

They're certainly more affordable and take up WAY less room!! Cool

Laughing Out Loud

I like driving, car design (as a form of applied arts), miniatures, model-building, and have collector type personality disorder (also called hoarding disorder), car model collecting satisfy 4 of 5 passions. My collection is of car models, some car-toys fit that category, but in general I do not collect toys. Neither large trucks, busses/ trains nor farming/construction/military equipment. I also collect car design renderings and car books, as well as keeping a digital library of thousands of photos (mine and from internet) for reference. Would also collect 1:1 cars if I can afford them.

My trip is taking a little longer than expected. No models today. Just curious, how many of you are both model car and watch (timepiece) enthusiasts? I like them both.

I collect them both Lu. Also have a collection of scale farm tractors, old whiskey bottles, a large collection of Colt firearms, an old, vintage Gillette, razor collection, a collection of antique cameras and one of coins from around the world.
