This 1921 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Dual Cowl Boat Tail was given a copper body by Brockman Coachbuilder. The body was hand formed from huge sheets of copper so there would be no seams or rivets. The accessories were done in nickel or German silver. The wood trim was done in Indonesian Macassar ebony, so rare and expensive, Brockman had to buy a whole tree. The price tag for this work of art was $16,000 in 1921 which was the proverbial 'king's ransom". It's been lovingly restored and resides in Reno, Nevada. Built as a show car, it has only one door as any more would weaken the chassis. The reflectivity of all this polished copper creates what could be described as abstract art. It's amazing to look at in the sun and indoors it just looks bizarre. For some reason, it's displayed indoors sitting on a bed of river bed stones which just adds to all the fascinating reflection on the surfaces.
This Franklin Mint model flawlessly captures this unusual coachwork perfectly. it was really fun to photograph.
Here's the 1:1 on display:
Your usual KILLER photos Sire! Up here, Rich, they'd use this Roller to make a moonshine still - all that copper!! I can see it now: "Silver Ghost Shine" the white lightning suitable for a Rolls Royce Owner, Y'all!
I love how different angles reflect different colors. Way cool.💯👍😎
What an interesting and wonderful post Rich. Captivating as always.
Rich, you always tell an interesting story about each car and that is what makes your shots fantastic. I cannot believe the detail in this model even if I do not collect this era.
