1932 was the depth of the Depression when luxury carmakers were hanging on for dear life. In that year, Cadillac sold only 300 of their V16 line. The V16 was well engineered and sported new more sporty styling. As to the coachwork, it was no longer commissioned to Fleetwood, but now being made in house at Fisher Body. Of 3 types of phaetons offered, only one dual cowl Sport Phaeton was built by Fisher and amazingly, it survives today in original condition with only paint touch ups and a recreated tonneau cover.
37 years ago, Danbury Mint modeled this car choosing to pant it solid green rather than its tutone brown and beige. The model is old tech for sure, but it really captures that sporty yet opulent look. The interior sports leather upholstery and door cards and the radiator mascot is beautifully sculpted.
@perrone1 It's funny though. One of the signature design cues on the V16 lineup was the chromed cooling flaps on the bonnet which DM modeled but is not on the only example of the dual cowl Sport Phaeton ever made. Gotta be a story there... or did DM take a certain license with this model.
The plot thickens....will we ever know the truth?
Great question. Following is the full photo span from the Sotheby's Auction and the chrome vents are painted body color. We know DM took the liberty of, first doing the model in this green in 1987, with the chrome vents and reissued it in silver & black 11/2003. That model also had them chromed.
I theorize that modeling it in a different color than the original, may have bypassed the license issues needed to gain the owner's permission to recreate the 1:1, but it's just a guess.

Thanks Geoff. The car sold in 2021 for $900,000. +
Other differences on the model are the flying mascot and chrome, open wheel spares. The 1:1 has radiator cap and full metal enclosed spares. Those changes may or may not have been made, over the years, by the 1:1 car's owner. (??)
