Looking to compete with Mercedes and Jaguar for the 2 seat luxury sports car, Cadillac took a shortened El Dorado platform creating the "V-Body", and had Sergio Pininfarina's coachbuilder Studio design and build the bodies for their Allanté roadster. Because the Fisher Body plant had been shut down, the bodies were shipped by special 747 jumbo jets capable of carrying 56 bodies each from Italy to Detroit for final assembly. I wonder if those jets returned to Turin empty which would make it REAL expensive, Anyway, from 1986 to 1993, over 21,000 were built with only upgrades in the engine that began with a 4.1 V8 and ending with the 295 HP 4.6 Northstar V8 in the last year of production. Offered in soft or removable hard top, it's an interesting design for the time but now seems really dated.
A good-looking car and model. I am not sure what is my favorite color car or model. They all are nice and the Northstar V-8 would be a fine performer.
