With the looming (allegedly) recession, it’s good to see some collector models holding some good retails. This Madison Models 1947 Kaiser Special just closed on the ‘bay for a healthy $710.

A good price and an extremely nice 1/43 '47 Kaiser, too.

@ed-davis

Why do you ask? I think it would be someone who wants to be sure they win the item.

@lloyd-mecca

The specific name of buyer is not important to me, but wonder if it is someone in US, someone outside US, and why they think model is worth that much money.

I'm certainly no 1/43 expert and have little knowledge about 1/43 Madison Models, however, I'm familiar with eBay (being a buyer/seller for over two decades ).  Generally speaking, when "wacky winning bids"  seem implausible, they usually are. Jackass bidders play games, "revenge bidding,"  friends spike up prices, etc.

In this case, I noticed 15 total bids, 3 different buyers (1 having just one bid).  The winner buyer and "runner up"  (the one-time bidder) have bid histories exclusive to this seller. To me that suggests "spiking."   The only "legitimate looking bidder"  did submit $640.

Assuming the price was spiked to $710, the $640 buyer may receive a "second chance offer,"  which of course, he may or may not accept.

Obviously, NOTHING I'm saying is an exact science it's, at best, educated guess work but $640 does appear to be legitimate.  A good indicator of "trickery"  is to see if this 1947 Kaiser soon re-appears on eBay. If not, one can reasonably assume this 1947 Kaiser sold for at least $640.....not bad.

Perhaps I should become a 1/43 expert. LoL 🤔 🤔 😏

I was watching that one also, and I will inform Buz how well it did....usually when a model commands this kind of price, there are more than just a few collectors that want one, and would like to see a re-issue of the model.

About 2 years ago, a Conquest 1948 Dodge coupe sold very well on the 'bay, and  I let Buz know the final price (about $650 or so) with quite a few of bids, and sure enough, he re-released the model almost a year later (coincidence? maybe) and still has a few left if anyone is interested.

I would love to have a re-issue of this beatiful frumpy Kaiser with a two-tone paint scheme.

@ben-lampson The box suggests this could be an early pre-Buz model. If so, would he have control of the master necessary to re-issue it?

@mg-harv yes Harv, this is a pre-Buz model, and Buz does own all the masters and tooling from before his ownership, and that includes Western models also.

1/43 White metal seems to attract some very special buyers every now and then. We see a small handful of folks start bidding on models that have sold at reasonable prices, and the prices skyrocket for a while, then settle back down. I get a little suspicious when I see auctions like the one above. The real trick is to watch for subsequent listings. If the same model pops up right away for an unrealistic price, it's possible you have a small group of folks trying to cash in on unsuspecting buyers. If a rash of listings occurs from sellers who are thinking, "I had no idea how much I could get for my model," then the going price will be what those models sell for.

As Chris says, this is not an exact science; it's conjecture. For me, the best strategy has always been to decide ahead of time what my maximum bid will be and stick to it. This prevents me from batting caught up in the heat of an auction and having buyer's remorse when I win it!

Even more interesting, one sold just a week before that for only $300 + $33 postage from the Netherlands.  Same style old box from Fa Daimler House - but not the same copy.  The newer box has a wrinkle in it...

If it was an honest deal, then someone saw the huge $300 price on the previous one and decided to sell theirs, and even got more $$$ for it.   All it takes it two to tango, two crazy collectors.
