So, as I sort of hone in on acquiring holy grail models, the pursuit of this latest one came from talking to John Kuliak in Chicago.
You see, back in the early days of my white metal collecting, there were a lot of desirable models that were well outside the price range I set for myself at the time (raising two young kids, paying for a house). But that didn't stop me from flipping through Sinclair's newsletters or going online to create a fantasy wish list. One of the sites I visited was for Crossways Models and their Rover Jet 1 turbine car. Its shape, its color, all those handles... it really stood out. So when I was talking to John in March and he said he had one in his collection, well, that was the motivation I needed to get one for myself.
I'd seen several pop up on eBay but they were either showing a broken windscreen or they were missing one altogether. Patience, Randy, patience. Two weeks ago, a fresh one popped up and I snagged it!
While these are numbered models of a small run (anybody know how many?), mine came with a card marked "Prototype". I've attempted to reach out to the owner of Crossway (John tipped me off that she's still selling some old stock on eBay) for some info on why this card is different, but she's not responded.
Anyway, by my calculations that leaves just two models on my holy grail list. Both quickly sold out upon release and I didn't order fast enough...
Autocult 1931 Wikov 35 Kapka
GLM 1933 Duesenberg Model J365-2385 Queen of Diamonds Franay
Wow I can see why you'd want that Duesenberg. It is just an absolutely gorgeous model ! Good luck Randy 👍🤞
It's always so satisfying to snag one of those grails! Congrats!

Love the license plate! 😎
I wish I had been looking on ebay - I want one of those too. Perhaps a future AutoCult subject?
That Rover Gas Turbine is on my want list also. Had it, traded it for another wanted item to my regret.
I'll just leave this right here...
If I can't find a buyer for it soon, I guess I'll just end up tossing it.

@daveg I'm your man Dave. Let me know the price and shipping and send it along. Thanks, Bob
@bob-jackman Hey Bob! I was actually posting this to tease Randy since it is on his holy grail list! Who knew that TWO people would be interested in it...LOL!! I had set it aside for him, but if he has already found one, it's all yours!! Apologies for the inadvertent tease!

@randyrusk You got it, sir! However, you can't have my Queen of Diamonds.... 🤣
I'll send you an email.

The Queen of Diamonds Duesenberg is on my list as well. I found one a couple of times, I was just not willing to spend the money requested.
