Automodello's Timbs Streamliner in progress....[PIC]

For those who like those "behind the scenes" looks at a work in progress, here's some rather grainy photos of the 1/43 Timbs Streamliner which I think is one of the coolest customs ever made.

Richard, you have sold me on a lot of models...

with you pictures. Spent my money well. But this one, I just don't get. It is very interesting to see the in-process shots, but (to me) the 1:1 is just ugly, so the model is not for me I'm guessing.
That is why it is great that our hobby can be so diverse and offer so many choices for everyone. Gotta love it!

Why is Jim sharing pre-production photos of this car but refused to show pre-production photos of the 1/24 Mark III?

Because he wants to make a small run of LE models...

...and charge double or triple the price!
That is why I refuse to purchase any Automodello models.
I had the '34 Packard (triple blue) on order for 10 months @ $299.00 USD, now all of a sudden it is a "LE" of 115 @ $349.00, sorry homey don't play that game.
I was interested in the Continental MK III
(black/black tan),for $299.00 originally, but NOT at the
current asking price of approx. $450.00 for all of a sudden "LE" model.
Maybe I sound jaded but I have to work for the money I earn
to purchase these model cars.

Thanks for letting me post my opinion, yours are welcome.

Brian.

Perhaps Richard can enlighten us with answers to this?

I know that they do indeed offer limited edition models at a higher dollar amount. Standard issues and limited issues. But, bait and switch, if this is what you're saying is not good business. Hopefully he can straighten these matters out before the Automodello names becomes tarnished.

Richard does not work for Automodello. Jim Cowen is the person that can

Answer these questions. I also had the blue Packard on my want list, but if the price went up because he decided to make it a L/E, I will bow out.
Jim?

The Mark III needs approval from Ford first. The Streamliner "copyright" (most likely) needs no...

...such approval.

My guess only.

Automodello does NOT use bait and switch tactics.

That is a very strong term and should not be used lightly on this forum. They generally offer models at two or three levels based on the numbers to be produced, the color, and sometimes features. As a buyer you have the choice of which level you wish to purchase, if at all. I have dealt with Jim Cowen since his first model and have always found him to be honest and above board.

Glad you chimed in Dick! I have two of their models..

and I'm very happy with them (both TVRs) and I certainly didn't have any problems with the pricing. I only stated what I did because that is what it was sounding like. I know that manufacturers sometimes have to go up on their prices and that is to be expected. I'll shut up now! Sorry if I offended anyone!

This car should have been called the "tadpole".

Why?

Doug, your question was answered later on in the thread.

When a product is produced under license, it falls under a completely different set of rules that must be strictly adhered to by the manufacturer. The 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III and 1962 Mustang I Concept fall under Ford's rules.

As to the other comments about pricing. The 1934 Packard was originally announced in only triple blue. After talking with the Packard club and other feedback from forums like this, the decision was made to limit production of the triple blue to coincide with next year's 115th anniversary and the 48th Packard club meet. The build was cut from 499 to 115 and the price rose to $348. Those who had pre-ordered the triple blue at $299.95 will receive the model at this price, and, not be assessed the higher price. This approach of price protection is controlled individually by each dealer within the Automodello channel for their own customers. The red with tan top and interior is the standard edition at $299.95 and a build up to 499.

With regard to the Lincoln Continental Mark III, the pricing has never changed from when it was first announced: $299.95 for the standard edition in red Moondust, $371.00 for the ginger bronze Tribute Edition, and, $449.95 for the Homage Edition black. Unlike some manufacturers, when Automodello sets a build quantity, we don't increase the edition size to accommodate demand. So if you missed out on the Homage Edition, you can be added to a wait-list which is how at least two buyers were able to obtain this model. The same pre-sell-out condition will soon apply to the Tribute Edition in ginger bronze.

Last, Dick Browne thank you for your kind words.

The Automodello Mark III was always $449.95 in Black & $371.00 in Ginger Metalic They waited to announce the color (Moondust Red) of the base model Mark III which they will make up to 499 pieces. The 34 Blue Packard (only 115 pieces) and I have been told I would get it for the committed order price of $299.95 as well as a Red one, up to 499 pieces will be made of it.

I agree with you they are expensive and I buy according. Budgets are Budgets $299.95 is my top. I would cancel out if any of them are not $299.95 or below. I have all of his 1/24th cars on order, 2-Packards, Cord, Mark III, Mustang I, Duesenberg Grabber. That's 6 @ $300 or $1,800.00 & I want all the Motorama cars too from Minichamps. I will be forced to choose? I can't have all of them.

I'm going to pass on the LEEC 32 Auburn as too expensive @ $275.00 and Ugly, Sorry Tony, Michael & Jay. I have better cars to spend money on. Besides there is a 32 1/43rd scale if one has to have an example for $50.00 so it's not like loosing out totally but it does mean I will no longer have a complete set of LEEC's. My LEEC's are displayed with their maker (Ford, Chevrolet, Mercedes or Hudson etc.) rather than together as LEEC's so not a huge disappointment.
