After WWII, Sydney Allard specialized in making British cars with American V8 engines, mainly for competition.
The Allard J1 was the company's first competition focused roadster introduced in 1946. The J1 was powered by a Ford Mercury-sourced 4.0L V8 engine that generated 140hp, which it sent to the rear wheels via a 3 speed manual transmission. These cars were created to be raced, featuring often in a range of road and rally events. The Allard J1 was a limited production car, with just 13 examples built before the model was discontinued in 1947. Only 6 survive today.

It is interesting to learn something of these cars. Back in the sixties and seventies, one would see these at car shows, and not knowing of their sporting pedigree, might think them a bit frumpy - though of course they're from the '40s. There used to be Allard saloon cars too.
Great! This is a car (and model) that I'm not familiar with it. I thank you, David, for your fine post. I have several Western models but this one is not in my ken. I appreciate your sharing.

@charles-rockett Pete still does. On Facebook we've been watch him turn a Brooklin '36 Dodge van into a woodie, step by step. He's a master craftsman!
