News on the Camaro!

I spoke with Simon today and got an update on the forthcoming Camaro. As it was going through some paint trials, he and Darren noticed something small but important. The ridge that runs down the middle of the bonnet (hood) should extend beyond the front edge of the bonnet. On the model, it does not. This did not become apparent until the colors were on the casting. As they looked closer, they also realized that, due to a casting issue, the roof was flatter than it should be. These issues are much more difficult to see until after the paint goes on. It’s why they do trial runs on the paint, to see if any corrections need to be made before they begin production.

As he has done in the past, Simon reiterated how important it is to get every new issue as accurately as possible. These final steps and inspections help ensure excellent fidelity, even though they may require some reworking of the details. This is more so for this model as it celebrates Brooklin’s 5oth anniversary. “It has to be right!” has been their mantra from the get-go.

That should all be good news for those of us who are eager to see this model on our shelves. Unfortunately, it will delay the rollout by about a month. We’re now looking at sometime in February or so.

My Take on this is positive in every way. I would rather see this kind of attention to detail and excellence than have the finished product rushed. Thanks to Simon, Darren, and Neil for being committed to getting it right!

I’ll include some images of the casting and the actual car below. Keep in mind that these are just paint trials intended to give a good look at the details of the casting.

Very cool! I love the attention to perfection. There is nothing but good news here, the finest of details really will make the difference.

This one will be superb and that is remarkable attention to detail. It is excellent subject matter, too.

@nickies The pattern is being adjusted and the body will be remoulded. We try to use as little filler as possible

Any chance Brooklin will do one without the graphics, for the suburban dad who's just been through a messy divorce ?

I'm surprised that any filler is used; I had no idea.  🤔 🤔

@chris, back in the day, white metal model makers would use filler to make minor adjustments to models that needed small corrections. It was a laborious and expensive process. Since those days, Brooklin/SMTS has learned that it's far better and more economical to get the pattern right rather than trying to make major adjustments after the bodies are cast. You can see from the pictures they post that there is no filler on the bare bodies.

@charles-rockett, there will be an NB Center Collection version without graphics. It was a special order in yellow. The stripe package was standard for the Z/28.

Had they used the superb Stamp model for checking, they would have noticed the ridge.
