After being out bit on an auction for a Motor City 1950 Ford Customliner to complete my 1949-50 "shoebox" Ford line up, I decided to simply make one.  Using an correct scale and relatively accurate old Ertl diecast I made my own.  This required lengthening the roof from a business coupe into a two door sedan and the distinctive side trim and two tone chartreuse and black with vinyl top color scheme.  Wheels needed to be changed for more accuracy and interior detailed in black, tan, and chartreuse.  A side mirror added and a fuel filler under a quarter panel door created as were the ribbed fender skirts.  Also added was a half moon plexiglass hood ornament which all 1950s had but was not part of the Ertl casting.  Not bad for a $13 Ertl and a can of Krylon paint in a close color approximation.

Interesting, looks like an excellent model. Great job. I too have been outbid a couple of times for one of these from Motor City. Since I am unable to make my own like you, I'll need to be content with the three I have in 1:24 scale.

- John Q., I'd say you did an excellent job for $13.... you could probably make more and sell them for $40!

- John M., as you probably know... these are also available in 1/18.

For John 1F
For JohnF 2
