I recently spent four weeks at home in London, allowing me time to rifle through model cars; some of which I had not seen in over a decade. I took photographs, (some dusty as I brush with a sable paint brush only gently, for fear of loosing more wipers and trim) and along with some notes that I have borrowed from Richard Adatto’s books on Delahaye and French ‘30s streamlining, I plan to post them here, over the following months….

This 1935 Peugeot 601 was built by Carrosserie Marcel Pourtout, for the aclaimed author Marcel Pagnol (L'Eau Des Collines - later released in two spectacular films: Jean De Florette and Manon Des Sources) and it featured exceptionally modern ponton styling; a streamlined grille that would later appear on the 602 Peugeots and the Eclipse roof, pioneered and originally patented by long-time Pourtout collaborateur, Georges Paulin: which entirely dissappeared into the boot to reveal a flush convertible. It won Best Of Show at both the Monaco and Cannes Concours d’Elegance of 1935.
The 1/43 model is by CCC of France.

It certainly radiates typical French design.  Very nice!

Beautiful model. A few years ago Norev issued a Peugeot Eclipse with a working roof.

@mg-harv I love this model and have great fun raising, and dropping the roof, but somehow I prefer its proportions with the roof up, rather than down, as the large boot gives it a business coupe 'attitude'.

@jkuvakas Thank-you.  I find the characters and stories behind these cars are fascinating. The story, (factual details I do not have to hand, now) of George Paulin and his financing development of the Eclipse roof; and then Peugeot's shafting him over their lease arrangements for the example Harv has contributed, is a good case in point.

I have the Eclipse model in 1/18 scale. I always enjoy asking those who tour my collection who invented the collapsible hardtop convertible. The answer is inevitably Ford.

A great model car and images, Charles ! This sleek beauty would be a star in anyone's collection. The images of the real car are excellent to see, too.
