1950 Packard Deluxe Eight Sedan - Brooklin Models, BRK 119

When Packard introduced their new design in 1948, it was basically a new sheet metal version of the previous generation of cars. It looked new, and in the beginning, Americans were starved for new cars and in 1948 and 1949, they sold well. By 1950, Packard found it more difficult in the fast-changing American car market. Some people found the design polarizing, while others nick-named it the "bathtub" and others called it a "pregnant elephant", neither of which I consider when I look at the car. I find its style to be captivating and inspired, considering what Packard was working with from the previous generation cars. To my eyes they looked contemporary and are as good as anything else from those years.

Brooklin really took advantage of the design by crafting several models based on this Packard style. Models were offered in wagon form, or station sedans as Packard named them, to some Community Service vehicles in ambulance and hearse formats. In the more later years at Brooklin a Custom Eight Limousine was offered, which I find breathtaking. All of these exist in my collection, but the subject of this post is the 1950 Deluxe Eight Sedan Brooklin offered.

This is one of my favorite models from Brooklin and has been since I was fortunate enough to add a gold version back in 2014 and it was one of the 1st Brooklin models added when my interests in model collecting changed. This Anniversary Gold version was crafted by John Roberts, and I found it before I even knew who he was. LOL! It was actually this model that led me to reach out when I learned of him. A true gentleman that I've come to know as well as one can from email correspondence. My collection is now populated with many amazing works of art by John.

The standard edition was issued in Packard Blue, which was a dark blue color and as it turned out, two shades of that blue were supplied. It has taken me a couple of years to finally add the 2nd shade to my collection, with the 1st joining in 2017. It wasn't until the BM Outlet on eBay offered some closeout models found in the two moves of the factory this past year, that the 2nd joined my collection.

They both look great and those are each fine shades of blue ! Very impressive automobiles both then as 1:1 and now as 1:43. Just ask the man who owns one (or more !).

John, I didn’t realize Brooklin did this Packard in two shades of blue. Nice model of a beautiful packard. As you cited the station sedan was done in several variations even slightly different. The early one was in white but lacked the wood grain  on the upper body. When I finally acquired the original one I added the woodgrain around the windows.
