I always loved GM's Motorama concepts. I started collecting them in the GADM and Highway Traveler days. In '53-'54 many of them were based on the Corvette C1 like the Nomad,the fastback Corvair,
the Olds F88 and this Pontiac Bonneville Special, but Pontiac was definitely headed towards jet aircraft design ending with the Firebird turbines that were bubble cockpitted fighter jets with four wheels. The 1956 Pontiac Club Le Mer began that evolution with its dorsal vertical stabilizer and aerodynamic nose. The ubiquitous waterfall trim on the hood and the Starchief stars were styling cues that continued on their production cars and basically identified the brand. The Club Le Mer succumbed to GM's "Crush It" order in 1958.
Please forgive the condition of the Bonneville Special. It hasn't aged well.
I have the Bonneville in both colors from GADM but for some reason have never acquired the Club de Mer. Great writeup Rich and great pictures Rich and Harv.
@d-m-holcombe Your Bonneville makes mine look like it went through a war. Nice pics.
@mg-harv I have the Firebird 1 in 1/18. I love your collection.
