Hubba, hubba! That Daimler Vandenplas is one sexy model!

I'm going to contact Drew about this one and some M-Bs.

That is one gorgeous model, though.

I've never really understood the Daimler thing...

are they made by Jaguar? Is it a Ford owned company? A subsidiary of Jaguar? Are they the same as Jaguars? Are there minor differences between them like the difference between a Canadian market car vs an American market car?

Daimler, without doing any research I can say Daimler as a mfg by itself was a producer of some sports/GT cars (SP250/Dart) as well as some high end sedans and limos, when acquired by Jaguar they became re badged Jags. Somewhere in the back of my mind I'm thinking the Jag bodied Daimler had a v8, maybe someone from the UK can verify this or correct me on anything else.

Daimler was German. Name was licensed to English firm in 1890's.

Leon you are probably thinking of

The Daimler V8 250 which utilised the Jaguar Mk2 body and mainly jag mechanicals. The engine was the 2.5 litre V8 as used in the SP250.

Jaguar purchased the English Daimler company in 1960.

The name dates way back to an original licensing agreement with Daimler of Germany but has no other connection to the Mercedes manufacturer. The fluting on the top of the grille was a long time feature of Daimler. Today's car only differs from the XK Jaguar in that trim difference and several other small features. The Daimler is sold in the US as the Jaguar Vanden Plas. For many years Daimler also produced a Hooper-bodied limousine used by the royal family.

No, I would love to go

I was invited to speak at a conference in Frankfurt last year but it never panned out. Maybe this year.

I live in Orlando for 7 years back in the 70's. Florida, in my opinion, is a beautiful place. What part of Florida do you have a home in?

Jaguar/Daimler

Liedo/Vanguards makes some very nice XJ & Daimler sedans as well as many other british cars. I may be wrong, but does any USA dealer handle the Vanguards line? Every one I have I purchased from a dealer in the UK. Even with the declining dollar, these are great models for the money, actually far better than the price would suggest.

I think you've mislaid an "N" there Dick, with a somewhat unfortunate result.

Yours,

I'm afraid that word does not appear in my dictionary of off-color verbage.

It must be English.
