PIX - Anybody like Mid-Century French Cars?

I ran across these IXO 1955-59 Simca models. I like them but felt they needed the proper setting, so several days later.....

Voila! Roland Simca of Arles:

I bought a 1959 Simca Aronde Sedan when I left the Army in 1959.

Worst car mistake I ever made, it was total junque (like the French spelling?). After one year I ecstatically found a buyer for it and replaced it with a 1960 Valiant. It was done in ugly colors (black with a green interior But it lasted nine years.

Dick, my first car was a '62 Valiant V-200 2dr hardtop. Great car! Kinda funny looking but it ran and ran. I was working late shifts in a tough part of town and taking the bus after school and then home after work. My dad quickly realized, "Son, you need a car." I didn't argue with him. $450 later, I had my Valiant. Sold it four years later to a family friend and she drove it another ten years.

Ugly colors?

Well, Dick, I guess you are right.

But Buzz' "Dick Browne Edition" 1960 Valiant still looks great on my shelf!

Brilliant diorama!

Always loved the look of Simcas. There are several more ex partworks Aronde models available as well as some relatively modern solido ones. There are several estate cars for example as well as Taxis.

Aronde has always been my favourite though others prefer the Vedette and its variations.

Simca grew out of Ford France which Ford sold off iafter WW2 though they also had strong links with Fiat.

Guess you won't believe me, but during my entire childhood, my father had a black 1950 Simca Aronde with light gray interior, although working for US Army Headquarters in France.
I was admiring American cars from the outside, and a 1955 Buick was the only American I enjoyed a ride in!

Nice work Randall. You have captured the look of a fifties small dealership perfectly.

I like the green Chambord too. I have it in red and white..

which I think is more common, I also have the Ariane and station wagon which looks great in black and yellow.

The Vedette had the Ford flathead V8 didn't it?...

Remember seeing a compound with at least half a dozen, just sitting there in a town near the Rhone river. They looked as though they'd been there for ages. I would have loved to have taken just one home!

black 55 Aronde hardtop

Reading some french car blogs, Simca introduced the 'Grand Large' at a 1955 auto show. Took them 2 years to figure out how to get enough structural rigidity to have all windows open with no central pillar. Then it was introduced to the market.

Merci beaucoup pour ton diorama! Tres bien fait!
