Racing Theme collections

I saw Steven Williams post below (Great photos and models, Steven!). Count me in, Steven. I've been collecting race themes for 45+ years. At this point I have every F1 Championship car and every Le mans winner (except 2010 in both cases), all the Indy winners from 1939 through 1977 plus all the 1980's and others on both side, all the IMSA GTP Championship cars plus lots of others (Starter made LOTS of them), 50+ NASCAR cars, plus a complete set of Chaparrals, lots of Lola and McLarens, etc. Almost forgot all the Trans-Am Champions. That's the great thing about 1/43 scale, especially if you're willing to build kits. They're all out there in one form or another. I'm really looking forward to Marsh's planned IMSA kits-- they'll make my old Starter models look pretty poor by comparison. I know there are a couple of Paddy Hopkirk Minis-- just can't remembercby who at the moment.

Racing Theme

Hi Wayne; Been a while since I have seen you because I missed the last few shows, Lord willing hope to make it this year. I have one theme you may have missed. It's all 27 Ferrari's that ran in the Mexican Road Race. Most I built, rest are BBR's. One I had to do some guessing on as I could only find one badly washed out photo from an old Mexican magazine but it completed the set.

PICS - Wayne, I've said before - You are my Hero Modeler. When I started building models again your three articles on the GP Models site kept me building "right".
Have much enjoyed your magazine articles too over the years. So, Thank you again.

Would love to see some of your collection if you have the time to post them here. Are you able to display them all?

Display space is a problem for me so I just select certain models to represent race cars of various eras. An example of this is a recent posting on Forum18 that I made of important race cars for over 100 years of GP/F1 history.
In case you are interested here is the Link:

Following are some cars that you influenced in my building.
The first is a Starter kit of the 1932 Alfa #8, Le Mans winner (sans # & stripes), driven by Sommer/Chinetti that I have never quite finished. This was the first model I built upon retirement a number of years ago.

This little diorama shows two dominant Ferrari's and father Ferrari himself in the middle.
-The 1952/3 500 F2 in which Ascari in his blue helmet won two world championships and won 30 of 33 races entered. The most successful Ferrari race car ever. This one is a diecast.
-Schumacher's 2002 Ferrari F1 is a BBR kit I built using your hints. Left the wheel off to point out the excellent detailing of the brakes on a 1/43ed scale model which one usually never sees. Real vented rotors - Amazing.
This 2002 F1 race car was almost as dominant as the older 500 F2 and that is why I posed them together.
-The 2003 Ferrari 360 GT in the middle is not too shabby of a racer either, is a pretty build, and fills out the shelf.

This final shot shows a collection of important F1 cars and their World Champ drivers located in my office. Thought you might enjoy seeing a bit more of my F1 collection. A number of other F1 cars are in drawers for easy access, but I have too many now.
PS. The little Alfa is on the shelf just above Jim Clark and his Lotus.

Fred, would love to see those Carrera PanAm Ferrari's, esp. Piloto Hill's '54 winner. PIC

Here is my display of representatives including some of the beautifully bodied Ferraris. Still need to detail the Hill/Ginther winner. Also have that strange '53 Lincoln/Caddy special with the aircraft canopy but how to display it in this grouping? Maybe remove a car or two due to it's size???

Thanks for the kind words, Steven, but from your photos I think you're doing a much better jopb of building than I am at this point. Yes, I do have all 3000+ (no, NOT all built kits!!) models on display (another advantage of 1/43) but they're jammed in so tightly that they don't display nearly as well as yours. I've considered reduceing the number in the cases, but what to put away or dispose of? I just keep cluttering up the shelves more.
Having finished the 1:1 scale airplane (registered as N143WM), I'm sending material to FSW again along with the regular columns in Model Cars and DiecastX.
Thanks for posting photos of your outstanding collection.

Did I forget to mention those? There are a couple of shelves of orange elephants and other Can-Am cars. I think I'm missing the Shadow DN-4 as far as the Championship cars go-- guess I should do something about that.

Great theme Fred-- I suspect that took a LOT of research. NICE work. I've missed several years of meetings, too-- ever since Strictly 43rd stopped, but I'm going to try to be there this year. Dick, is there going to be a dinner/reunion one evening?
