Everybody here know that I don't collect white metal models but sometimes I have to make concessions to fill a gap in my early 50's Buicks collection.
A few years ago, I posted pictures of the Conquest 1950 Buick Special Sedanette when it has been issued. By my standards the front grille has always been wrong because the parking light pods are too small and don't fill the grille properly. Solido did a far better job in this matter.
I hope we will see a nice accurate resin model coming soon but in the meantime, I took additional pictures of the Sedanette.
Nevertheless it is still a charming model .........
@michaeldetorrice i never understood SMTS missed so bad with the grille parking light pods.
Otherwise, overall the model is not bad. The casting is very thick and uneven on both side but I believe they recovered from the previous mold of the Riviera and Convertible to make this one.
I've come to really enjoy this era and the cars that came from it.
@randyrusk Randy; if you are talking about appreciating the era encompassing post war through 1951 or so, I am in agreement. As a young guy my first car purchase was a low miler '53 Ford and in reflection that year was IMHO generally the design change that began the next era, which to my eye then ended after 1956. In much earlier years I didn't pay too much attention to cars before 1952 but in the past 20 or so years I have really come to appreciate the post war to '52 design era much more.
"Nevertheless, it is still a charming model......"
Agreed, despite the flaws. I've ALWAYS loved 1950 Buicks BECAUSE of their BIG toothy grin but NEVER thought of buying a 1:1 because of that CRAZY (IMO) hood! I just can't deal with all that "side action." 😬 😬 😬
The photo of the maroon Sedanette posted by Jack Dodds caught my attention. Three ventiports and a one-piece windshield indicates a 56S Super Sedanette. I always thought the lower body chrome molding spear was standard on the Super and optional on the Special. If that were true it meant that my much loved model of the '50 Super Sedanette was a little inaccurate. Seeing the photo of the maroon Sedanette makes me think I'm wrong. I'll bet Richard Dube can answer this one.
@jmullinax The Maroon model is a Super Sedanette. It is missing the side chrome trim. Your blue model is a Super missing also the chrome trim as all Solido and Provence are.
@mg-harv Very cool, but where's the hood ornament, door mirrors, and antenna? 🤔 🤔
@nickies Richard, your thoughts about the parking lights are right on. Like you, I still like the model.
