I think that you nailed this one John. As you indicated, the key to this model is value. For the price point, you can't beat it.
@kenspear, That's it, precisely. Although, as Harvey has pointed out, I seem to have gotten a pretty good deal on mine. I know they were fairly inexpensive at release, but most of those I see now are $50 and above.
Another factor in the purchase price is licensing. Not all makers pay for the right to sell various nameplates. Those privileges are expensive and put folks like Goldvarg, who licenses all his models, at a profit disadvantage.

Excellent review John. I'm glad to have the model in my collection.
A very solid and professional presentation, enjoyed watching it.
Thanks for taking the time and effort to put together. Well Done!
As I said on FBook, the lack of chrome bumpers is a deal-killer for me. Sure, Minichamps and GreenLight paint their window trim, but silver-painted bumpers? I just bought a WhiteBox model (which I will post soon) for $30 and it has ALL the chrome, including the window trim. Perhaps MCW will release an upgraded model later....
The bumpers are painted but they're done very well. You have to look very closely to see. At least, that's the way it looks to me. There may be some intermediate way of plating that lacks the luster we're accustomed to.
For me, the underscale size is a huge problem. Sitting alone, it looks fine. Next to another model, the size difference is glaring. But, all that comes with the price point.

This is a good find at its price point, and since this is the only real offering of the '61 Lincoln in 1:43, it's worth owning.
There is quality photo etch for the side windows, wipers, and even the 'Continental' and star badging on the side --- all comparable to the trim on the $100+ models. All other bright work is painted but is done at least as well as GLM's new Stamp Models Cadillacs.
As for the grille the '61 had a uniquely complicated grill made up teeny squares just like the Continental MKII. GLM had the same the same trouble with their MKII.
I would love to see a "62 or '63 [with their more reasonable grills] in greater detail and proper size, and in more interesting colors.
Here is my attempt at black wash. Better in the back then the front but at least there is some depth around the headlights. Any more and I made it look sloppy.
Nice! That blackwashing is sorely needed and you've done a great job with it.

Thanks John for your review, as with the rest I've seen, very well done and informative. I truly appreciate the time you take to present these to us, and enjoy seeing your insights.
I bought this model a few months ago, and 1st I agree with the value side of the model. But I stated my opinion on the overall look of the model already. I just think it looks off, the chrome around the wheel wells is way too thick and detracts from the look of the fenders, making them appear to small, primarily in the front. I changed the whitewalls to a pair that are slightly smaller, and to my eyes, it helped a bit.
I am glad I have the model, simply because of significance of the 1:1, but I am disappointed with the model as a whole. We really need a better quality representation of this automotive icon.

@jkuvakas John, I own both this 'BOS' sedan and the 'NEO' convertible which is virtually the same model. I compared both to the old 'FM' 1:43 version of the convertible in turquoise. one of the "cars of the 60's" series. The models are virtually identical in length and width. The old 'FM' is a bit 'clunky' with huge opening gaps, (it is a diecast model) where the newer resin models are refined and far more precise. I do not see the underscale that bothers you?
@stanton-lyman, Thanks for commenting. The FM must be underscale as well. The BoS Lincoln is 4.83 inches long. That works out to a 1:1 size of 208.25 inches. The real 1:1 was 212.4 long which works out to a 1:43 size of 4.94 in. The BoS Lincoln is 1.11 inches too short to be an accurate size. If the BoS lincoln was 1:1, it would be almost 4 ft too short. In other words, the BoS is about 20% shorter than it should be. That's significant for a 1:43.

Sorry John but that math is a bit wonky. 4.94-4.83=.11 not 1.11. That would equate to about 5 inches on a 1:1, not 4 feet!

You know? You're absolutely correct. My apologies, gentlemen. I overreacted.
I simply have got to learn how to use those calipers correctly!
Thanks. Should I take the video down?
