Ed L, where do you see a black #14?
Shel, it's item 92347. According to Roger Mateo's book on "Special Brooklins,"
it was a color trial and saw limited production. It's shown at the bottom of page
17 of the book.
Apparently there were also some unauthorized Code 3 versions made but the
quantity isn't shown, or perhaps even known. It's listed as "rare."
So, limited production would in fact make it rare. Whats the problem?
I do not think that one is Black, looks like the Very Dark Bronze version.
Listed in John Scrivens' book as BRK14-004, I have the Dark Bronze (003) and isn't much lighter. Take a good look at the picture.
I don't have a problem, Lloyd. I was only answering the issue raised by Ed, and responding to Shel's question.
Ken is not a collector, but is trying to liquidate his father's collection. I don't
know if the car just looks black to Ken, or if the box end flap actually described
the model as black. Perhaps someone who might want to bid on the car can
email Ken (the link is provided on the auction listing page) and get clarification.
Thanks Rick,I could not find any reference to a black model in the collectors guide.Ken`s comments on the exact colour would be interesting.I have light and dark bronze BRK 14 s which cannot be described as black.
Could not resist this one. There are many shades and this has to be darker than any of mine!
Good for you, Ed. Glad I was able to help by pointing out the info in Roger's book.
The photo Ken attached certainly looked black to me, as it was darker than the
pics I've seen of the dark bronze.
Dick, the starting price is impossible to see unless you click on the item.
All I see is:
92302 Brooklin 1960 LINCOLN CONTINENTAL Excellent BID NOW $100.00
8/13/2010
Don't you agree that this is high? Why do you think this is a negative comment?
Shel, I am a collector too. I do need some Brooklins.
I am not prepared to pay retail prices for a second-hand model, however. That's why I commented on the price. As far as resale, we both know there are plenty of Brooklins available out there for less than $40.00.
Dick...Might You Be More Clear As To The Negative comments?? From what I've read...and even my own personal response was in no way a negative one. I, like many of our other members believe wholeheartly in supporting this board. I also believe in respecting "certain" policies as it pertains to the auction forums, but IMHO, it would seem that "some" are being a trifle bit too sensitive and reading more between the lines than REALLY exsists...don't you??
The bottom-line is this, if a potential buyer fells that the prices are fair, he will bid...and if not, he won't. I have always suggested to those I meet with on a daily bases, and that is to "vote with your wallet."
Again, I believe that this has been a VERY respectable discussion, a freedom provided to us under the Constitution of these United States...fought for with shed
blood left on many a battle fields. I sincerely hope that we ALL remember this in conversation, even when another might disagree with our way of thinking. As long as that which we say and imply IS respectful of others, last I checked, "Freedom of Speech" is STILL alive and well!!
Jeff
Rick thanks for explaining but ..............
I have no wish to view the 1:24th scale auctions. This scale does not interest
me at all. All I was doing was responding to Dick's post and viewing the
1:43rd ones to see if there was anything that caught my eye
Plus I have used auctions in the past in many forms including internet and the
old way of live face to face ones.
BTW it has been over a year since I have bought a model from an auction. I
prefer to purchase from fairs and stores.
Cheers Chris

Shel...Curious As To Why You Don't Have More Listings Here Than On Ebay??
I know that I've purchased many from you over the years and would be pleased if I could see more funds provided to this board than to Evil-Bay!
Just Curious??
