@jkuvakas Hi John read this article earlier today. This is a similar course of action I put into place just prior to the Covid-19 lockdowns. For me I add lack of space so 1:64th scale has benefits as it takes up less space but I am still collecting 1:43rd scale. However, the super detailed 1:64th scale models are on another planet to anything previously available. These are easily purchased as the writer states from China via ebay but also there is a huge store in Hong Kong that can supply them. Ranges these suppliers have is vast and no one in the UK or Europe stocks them.
During the lockdowns I also started collecting Hot Wheels again. Most are not 1:64th scale but as I found out in the last few years recent HWs are better designed and are more faithful to the original. Also, pad printing is far more developed and yields excellent results - even number plates are replicated by this method along with headlight details.
For pushing detail in 1:64th scale we need to thank Tomica when they launched their TLV range in 2004. These are still going strong today and extremely popular with some now fetching truly amazing prices.
