The close-set, revolving headlights were certainly a unique feature of this GM Motorama star.

Harley Earl was worth his weight in gold; he was the Steve Jobs  of his day. He gave the public things they didn't even know that wanted, until they saw them. This beautiful Buick show car is just another in a long list of examples.

Hints of the '58 Buick in the front.

"Hints"  of about 30 different cars!  Think about any 1951 production vehicle, then study this Buick.

You'll see future Cadillac front & rear bumper treatments, Buick & Desoto taillights, Chrysler & Cadillac fins, Lincoln Continental wheelcovers, Corvette & Oldsmobile for sure, heck, even Torando trunk mounted taillights! Buick side trim, GM egg-crate grill, even the name "La Sabre"  would eventually be used, etc., etc.,  ....just spectacular!

And I didn't mention any of the mechanical achievements.

Again, this was designed in the late 1940's; this makes even a Tucker look dated!

I like how the front intake reminds me of the front intake of the F-86 Sabre Jet.

Or maybe I'm just imagining it....

@100ford2003

This car’s styling also reminds me of early jet fighters.

Chris I can't believe you were able to pick out those trunk-mounted tail lights. I sure as hell missed those !

Good eyes there !

It's worth noting that the side grilles at front were a later addition.  I've never found out when they were added. Doubtless it was for improved aspiration so perhaps early on?

Thanks Charles. I believe that on first showing, there was no engine.  Those vents were likely added when it got to more than the mock-up stage. I notice quite a few trim changes also.

Hi Charles,

Great video. I don't think that driving LeSabre had grills etc. so your pictured one was far more than a mock-up.
