The dream of every father, the dream of every son..........all captured in that one frame
We clearly see that it`s a film production.....but we instinctively "know" that Andy and Opie will take their catch back home to Aunt Bee`s kitchen ........... and talk about the fine dinner they`ve enjoyed as they relax later,on the front porch
This old tv show grew around the talents of a gentle comedian, and it was obviously enriched by the fine community in which he grew up. Great cast, fine writing, and I hope it lasts in re-runs as long as I can watch tv. Thanks for the set picture, John. You have reawakened good memories for me.
tell-a-vision.......
John, how right you are! The Desilu backlot (seen here) was home to some of the most beloved sit-coms of the 20th century.....and they were all, of course, just illusions. One slight camera move, left or right, would've revealed all the trickery thereby scattering "those illusions." Â
In this photo, we can see just how densely packed all those iconic sets were.Â
It's interesting to note the (very) close proximity of single-family homes to the Stalag 13 (Hogan's Heros) set. Desilu was sold to Paramount in 1966-67, years later the property was sold again and leveled to build office space.
Today, those same homes are still there. The realization of knowing one could witness filming of TV programs such as Gomer Pyle, The Andy Griffith show, Hogan's Heros or Mayberry RFDÂ by simply looking out their backyard windows is astonishing.
I've included a pic of a wonderful scale model of the I love Lucy set too.
You mean they lied to me? I'm shocked.

Yep, Andy could tell a story.... even way back in the mid 1950's. Danny Thomas thought alot of Andy, spun off a show just for him and we all know the rest. 😀Â
