Well anyways, they created a knock-out design for the 49 Ford. It made the competition look old by comparison; and they were decent looking cars too.
Whoever made the decision regarding the design Ford/Mercury change in the 12th hour sure called it right!

I recall reading years ago that the 49 Ford was so rushed into production that there were quality control body issues and customer complaints about it. Apparently Ford made the required changes/improvements for 1950 though.

Really? I knew they didn't design it but they did agree to build it. Didn't they also..
...decide, once they agreed to "gamble" on that new "radical design" for the 1949 Ford that all other design makes would now be "pushed up?"
For example, the previous new '49 Ford design would now become the new "49 Merc. while the Merc became the Lincoln.
While of course still offering a "baby Lincoln."
At any rate, without these whiz kids, FoMoCo could've been an entirely different operation by 1960.
