Very nice, George. But, safer? Air raid shelters, air raid drills in grade school, Kruschev banging on the podium at the UN saying, "We will bury you!", assassinations, the Red Scare, red dye #9, the impending ice age, NYC engulfed by a glacier, oil that will be all gone by the early 70's, McCarthyism, TV was going to make us all zombies, mad cows, even madder Abominable Snowmen, cattle mutilations, UFOs, volcanos, the list goes on and on. 😊 I'm jus funnin with ya!

LOL, everything you mention was real, but we were not in the mess as a society as we are today. Shootings daily in restaurants, Schools, churches, malls, stores, airports, offices, on the streets, EVERYWHERE. The gun violence alone is enough to make one not want to leave their homes. The government has given carte blanche to the LGBTQ community to take over TV, schools, businesses, etc. Shoving a diverse and immoral lifestyle and wrong beliefs down our throats. The family is no longer a role-model mother and a role-model father, It broken homes with women with many kids and many fathers, all of which in many cases are non-existent in children's lives. Our courts are allowing abortions, gay marriages, kids claiming at Kindergarten age that they want to choose their gender, and it just goes on and on. Our world is a MESS!

I love your pictures George; you can't help but smile when you look at them. I must say though that I was shocked to see that person driving into the car dealership to trade in their '62 Olds Ht.....are they nuts!!!?
@jkuvakas You are right, the difference as I see it, back in the day I was a kid that did not pay any attention to the news or happenings out side of town. As an adult the world is after me! Wonder/worry about everything. Now, glad to be old I don't worry or wonder any more. Feel sorry/depressed for the grandkids the way it is looking. I want to go back to 1956 and be 21 years old knowing what I know now. A fairy tail that can not come true but fun to dwell on for a couple of minutes.

Well, not listening to or following the news and media is an alternative. However, the news/media is EVERYWHERE today.
Respectfully stated George, maybe the best thing for you to do is move. I moved to a small town of 16,000 population and found a completely different life style; like going back fifty years....just lovely. Seriously; in the last decade I found myself feeling similar to what you have stated today. Even though I knew that these strange and irritating people you speak of form a relatively small percentage of the population they create a hugely disproportionate amount of negativity in society. The problem as I saw it with these people is how much attention they demanded, how aggressive they were (especially in groups) and how much anger and rudeness they showed towards anyone who was different than them or had a different point of view and, most importantly, how they were allowed to act out so badly in their communities. Then throw in their incredibly strange morality, their expectations from society and shocking sense of entitlement. Then throw in the drug addiction/mental health crisis of their generation and the resulting homelessness within that group. Then throw in the joke of a criminal justice system that commands and deserves almost no respect from them and in fact ultimately emboldens them criminally. Then throw in the joke of a welfare system that is inadequately administered/monitored to further heighten their expectations of being looked after at someone else's expense. Then look at the joke of an education system that helped to form their beliefs, morals, expectations, sense of social responsibility and ethics. I could go on. IMHO the last couple of generations have really dropped the ball in their responsibility to ensure that the next one is properly developed and cared for. Far too much emphasis has been placed on each young person's personal happiness, sense of personal fulfilment and feeling included. There is an important place for this agenda of course but the pendulum/focus on this has swung way too far; to the point of extremely damaging an entire generation. To a large extent we have allowed the system of development and education of our young people to be assumed by the WOKE element; we have not taken it on personally. Being pampered does nothing for a young person to develop their sense of personal responsibility to society, to being responsible for doing their part in forming, contributing to and belonging to a healthy community, to understand that their hard work equals personal success and fulfillment. This generation feels lost and directionless for the most part and have no idea what to do to (as a whole) to get things back on track. As a result they are becoming increasingly frustrated and angry and of course blame the generations before for it all for two reasons. One is because IMHO they have in fact been socially let down and developmentally mismanaged by the previous generation and the second is because it is far easier to place the entire blame on someone else rather than admit that you aren't doing your part to fix things either. Spoiled people always look to others to fix everything for them don't they? Sadly they as taxpayers of the next generation who will be bearing the burden of paying to straighten out their social mess, will be shocked to see the staggering price that will have to be paid. I feel truly sorry for them. History has shown us that in most cases of chronic social and economic crisis the end result is war. I pray they find a better way.

Some great words and logic Jack. I frown because you've hit the nail on the head. Sadly, we as a moral and honest society, have lost the battle and the war. The only consolation I have is the age I am. The road in front of me is a lot shorter than the one behind me. I give thanks to God that, I'm not in my 20's or 30's, because I'd not want to have the next 50+ years to be a part of the mess our world is.
I agree with you about the '62, they must be nuts. But then, so must the guy behind the '62 that is driving that beautiful '57. Each car represents my favorites of each in their respective decades.
@georgeschire Yes, I do believe we got to experience the best of it George.
I chuckle because my grandma always used to say the adage, "The world's going to Hell in a handbasket". She's been gone for 40 years, and I'm blessed that she didn't have to see the world, "Gone to Hell in a handbasket". At any time in our history, the world has had its trials and woes, but when I compare those of today versus those of all the bygone decades, it has never been worse than it is now.
