When one thinks about it, our Interstate Highway system is truly genius. However, I've never understood how highway's 35E and 35W are labeled as east and west when they run north and south.

This happens when there is an alternate route, such as a business route when the highway again merges together at some point.
Oh, and to be honest...I do know the answer. 35E is in St. Paul east of the Mississippi River and 35W is in Minneapolis west of the Mississippi River. But they do run north and south.

I85 in North and South Carolina run east-west until you hit Spartanburg county, where it runs north-south.
North, south, east & west are just societal constructs…”directions” are a myth…there’s only one true direction - “…follow the yellow brick road…”😁

I’d be tempted to not go down that one way street, George.
For Interstate highways, ones that primarily go east-west have even numbers, and ones that primarily go north-south have odd numbers.

That would be sad. But to each their own.

Don’t misunderstand me George, it’s not the religious reference, it is more to do with crosses placed on roadways where disasters happen. I should have picked up your meaning of the ‘True Direction’.

Yes, I guess you did miss the meaning of the sign. The pole and sign are casting a shadow on the wall. The message being, there is only "one way to Heaven". And yes, that is why I said it's the "True direction".
