Steve, asking someone "how can you be this stupid" is now being taken as a challenge.

LOL!

You're so right Bob. Sadly, it's impossible to debate with stupidity. And even more sadly, is the fact that anyone with even a little common sense and/or logic is now in the minority and told to be quiet, as we're forced to accept mediocrity as being okay. People are no longer held accountable for any type of standard. Hate to sound like an old person, but I've been around long enough to see and realize that our world is a mess and getting worse. Â

Sadly Steve, on this subject, I wish I didn't. But between, social media and the news media, I think our world has become angry and divided. Not saying it was ever perfect, but certainly in the last 30 years or so, it's gradually been on a downhill slide. And with but minimal exceptions, I don't see the generation coming up and taking over, making it any better.  Â

@georgeschire, apparently, neither did we. 🤔
To me it seems to have gone down hill in this country with the ME generation as I call them  in the '50's & '60's. They did not care about God & Country just themselves, seems like people born after 1950. Definitely NOT everybody [Maynard G Krebs] but it started with a few and grew through the 1980's, everybody gets a trophy.Â
I have not eaten in a fast food restaurant in 20+ years and then only breakfast all the way back to the '70's, the last time for any non breakfast meal, well I did use their restrooms quirt a bit over the years.
@100ford2003 One of the few smart things the French say is "never argue with a fool. Passers-by will not know which is which". Â Best try and get your money back and get the hell outta there.

Oh believe me John, I'd be one of the first to admit that my generation and the one we brought in to the world, dropped the ball many times. Ironically, most mistakes and shortcomings are never noticed until the damage has been done. But also, there is an old adage that "we should learn from those mistakes and shortcomings", but sadly, again that doesn't appear to be the case.Â
I was told by my grandma (one of the very few positive role models in my life) that it goes like this: "Touch a hot stove, burn your hand, and it's an accident. Touch a hot stove a second time, burn your hand, and it's stupidity". In many ways, we as a society don't learn from "touching a stove and getting burnt". There's also another old adage that says, "History repeats itself". I think that ties in to the "hot stove" example in a weird kind of way. Â

I think your 50's & 60's time frame is a little off. After World War II, American's had compassion, respect and tolerance for the country and right and wrong. They wanted to work and make the world better.Â
The 70's & 80's generation was "the ME generation". They began the rebellion against their parents, authority figures, and wanted to do it "their way". From my ringside seat, it's been downhill since.Â
And today, we're at the bottom of the mountain, a mountain that is to hard to climb back up. The law is no longer supported, people have no moral fiber or work ethic, and God is ignored totally.Â
You can't tell today's generation "NO", because they weren't taught to be respectful. Every simple rule, guideline, or law is debated and ignored. That's where "the ME" comes in. They only want to do what "they want to do" and if they can't have "their way" they rebel and protest.Â
I could go on, but I think this horse has probably been beat down enough.Â

And one of my favorites is.. 'never engage in a battle of wits with someone who is unarmed'.Â
