Awesome is truly the word...
I was stationed at Beale AFB, California, a SAC base, from 1970 to 1973. Assigned to the Base Safety Office, I was often on the flight line during SAC alerts when the entire 456th Bombardment Wing (roughly 30 B-52s) launched MITO (minimum interval take off). The sight, sound, feel and smell was truly awe inspiring. Still today the most stunning experience I've ever had.
