In May of 1957 at the age of eleven, I purchased a Raleigh Robin Hood bicycle from money I earned from mowing lawns, shoveling snow and walking a neighbor’s dog. I had to buy Raleigh’s lowest priced model, the Robin Hood that sold for $49.95. The Raleigh Sports model sold for a lofty $59.95. A Raleigh Suberbe with a full chain guard cost even more! A kid across the street had a Superbe. I was happy, however, with my Robin Hood. I can’t remember last Tuesday yet I remember the serial number of my Raleigh—25778RA. For Christmas my son gave me a 1:10 scale replica of a Raleigh Sports Superbe.
I didn’t realize there are bicycle replicas in 1:10. A whole new world of collecting awaits!

David; My first bike was a Raleigh too. It was a Raleigh Black Hawk, dark red with white fenders and it was a tank. We lived in the city until March of 1961, when we bought a small farm in the country. My mother wouldn't allow us "two wheeler" bikes in the city and when we moved she immediately made good on her promise to get new bikes for me and my sister. I recall like it was yesterday when they were delivered by a man in a primer grey Ford Anglia van. That bike was indestructible!
MY first bike in Canada was a Raleigh back in 1952. It was black and just like this one but I don't remember the model name. I changed to Peugeot with derailleur gears later.
I currently have a Raleigh 10 Speed Centennial Mountain bike bought new for their anniversary back in 1987. It is definitely indestructible.

I'll bet that you also own the Dinky Toys Austin van in Raleigh livery David??
We seem to be the same age and, in the days before the two car family and helicopter moms, your bike was your freedom. Funny though, I remember the bike I had that same year with its fat tires, a faux gas tank with horn button and head light shaped like a rocket ship, but for the life of me I can't remember the make.
Yep, Schwinn was the Cadillac of kiddom back in the 50s…still remember buying my first one for $45 used from a bicycle shop in downtown Minneapolis and cruising home as proud as a 15 year old could possibly be…🥰🥰🥰

But the shop traded in that old tired Austin A-40 version for this new Morris Marina version.
