I was 17 in 1963 and really into cars. When I saw the first pictures of the new Corvette, I was blown away with its brilliant design... especially the fastback coupe. My neighbor directly behind my house was a freelance writer and having just scored a big contract, bought a brandy new silver Corvette split window coupe. Because he had a carport instead of a garage, I could hang out my window and drool. Having always thought of him as nerdy, he was now, in my eyes, the coolest cat in town.

I'm not really a 'Vette guy  but have always loved this car. There's a handful of models I do NOT have among my 1,000 ++ piece collection and a 1963 Corvette is one of them. I don't own one in any scale. How & why that is... I just don't know.  ???? 🤒 😳 🤒

Rich, your pics of this beauty are spectacular; I hate black interiors but for this car I'd make an exception. 😎

One of my favorite anecdotes recalls '63 owners who, in '64 & '65, removed that "split window"  vertical pillar and 2-piece glass assembly then replaced it with a 1964 full-length window & trim.

"Smart, right? Now everyone thinks I have a new car!"

🙄 🙄 😯 😯 😮 😮 😮

@chris Funny, we're exact opposites. With Vettes, over the years The C2 image got old and also I was enamored with the C3 Makos for a decade or so, and then lost interest in Corvettes entirely. In the early years here at the D4C, I jousted with the hard core (gotta have'm all) Corvette fanatics that I wasn't interested in collecting them at all. Then, one day, I took a mental inventory of my collection and was shocked... I had a million of these damned Vettes! How that happened is still a mystery to me.

This AUTOart '63 Corvette looks fantastic and is a really great diecast of a sensational car ! In 1963, as a real car, this certainly seemed like some incredible spaceship and it is captured here ideally. Fine images of this beauty !

I refuse to sell my Auto Art version of the silver blue '63 Corvette convertible. I'll probably die with it that's how much I love it !!

Along with my Cobra which is in burgundy with the gold stripes. Two of my most favorite models ever.

Steve

Sorry I need to clarify, the Cobra is by Exoto.

I wasn't a "Vette" guy until the radical new design of the C5 was produced.  However, if I made an exception, it would have been the 1963 Corvette Stingray.  I vividly remember, even as a diehard Ford Fan (For me there was no more beautiful car than the stunning Thunderbird Sports Roadster), how floored I was with the design.  It was radical in every sense.  The hide-away headlamps, the dual exhaust tips that protruded through the rear bodywork, how the door cut into the top to enable easier entrance and exit (We later call it ingress and egress.  LOL), and of course, that fastback with the split window!  It was just too perfect to my 11-year-old eyes when I saw the car "in the flesh" at the Auto Show at Cobo Hall.  I must say ditto the Buick Riviera, too!  Unbelievably gorgeous cars!

I have the '63 split window in 1:24, but I don't have a 1:18 in my collection.  And based on the enormous prices these cars are selling for on eBay, it's unlikely that I'll have one anytime soon.

Yeah Marty I agree. I was 10 years old in 63 and I absolutely loved the Corvette. I also remember that my friend Mark his dad worked for a Ford dealership and they had a brand new Mustang parked in his driveway almost every day when our school bus would pass by. I think I left forehead and nose prints in the windows.  LOL
