OK, well ... I have "a few" of these 1/18 1923 Ford Model T "Snap-On" period correct promo trucks. A great, nicely detailed replica but it always seemed that a "simple" (nothing is ever simple!) conversion to a period correct roadster was possible. Today I started. To get the general shape of the NEW rear area (which will include an opening trunk) I roughly copied my 1/18 Model T "wing Gasser." From there I referenced photos. I'm not finished yet; stay tuned...........
OK.... PART 2 STARTS HERE:
Four months have passed since "Part 1" therefore it seemed logical to repost all of PART 1.
I have since:
-Cut out the trunk
-Added stops
-Added hinges
-Added trunk handle
My external hinges are really not correct but, in my opinion, look better than "dog legs" (the only other true option I had). Also, these oh-so-tiny hinges (doll house stuff) are in keeping with all other external hinges found on this 1/18 replica. The trunk handle is also incorrect, but I just had to pirate the very tiny metal handle found on the back on the Snap On tool chest. It just looked "right" to me.
Lastly, you may think panel fit is a bit "gappy" but that should all be hidden very well once the "rolled edging" & paint is applied.

wow !!!  brilliant work Christopher.....it must give you such a lift to have this project bending to your will 😎Â
Just look at that accuracy (...not bad 😉 )  Of course, there's much detail still to add. Anyone who knows me...knows I LOVE a good trunk!
Super nice Chris. Thanks for sharing.
Ahhhh! The professor at work! You're a brave man! Very cool!
