I still remember the day I went to the NNL East model show decades ago and saw a vendor selling Exoto models. There were only two back then: beautiful Cobra Daytona Coupes, which I thought I'd never see a model of, and these muscular looking Corvette Grand Sports which I had never heard of. The details and finish were mind blowing and I emptied my wallet. The prices were just under $100. I bought a blue and a red (Scuderia Filipinetti) and 2 of the GS models (based only on how cool the hood scoops looked. Prior to this incredible discovery, I was mostly a 1/24 Mint guy. Now I kept my antennas tuned to any new Exoto release.

What a discovery, and under $100!  Looks like it set up a lifetime of collecting in this size. This one is still impressive.

"The prices were just under $100."

Ah yes, I too remember those days well....     when Ertls, Ansons  and basic Sunstars  could be had for less than $12, Exoto was selling PREMIUM high-quality replicas for $100   OMG! 😮 😮 😮

Nice post Rich - and yes, "muscular"  is most apropos!

In the early nineties it was hard to keep up with the 1/18s that were being produced. It's this scale which has left me out of space today.

It is a gorgeous car and Exoto model of it. A good friend of mine got the Exoto 1/18 diecast replica of it and he loved it. It photographed extremely well.
