...this is about as old as Ertl can get; I've owned this model for over 25 years. Long ago, I adjusted the whitewalls (not perfect for '64 but MUCH better than what Ertl did ) and one day I'll probably cut the trunk open.
This is basically a "curbside model." The hood & doors do open, by why bother - however - Ertl nailed the proportions. It looks pretty spot on to me! 😎 😎 😎
I have that same color Ertl 1/18 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS and it has always been a favorite. A very cool replica of an all-time Chevy nameplate.
Ertl, Schmertle, inexpensive or not - it's gorgeous and well photo'ed! And yes, the stance, proportions and shape are all spot on. NICE!

I wish for a '65 in 18th. My cousin bought a brand new one in a light yellow color. I just absolutely love that body styling from 1965. It was such a change from the 64. Those tail lights, I still love the way they look. When they moved them in 66 I thought what a downgrade.

Steve, Hot Wheels did produce a 1/18 '65 Impala. Years ago, I thought of kit-bashing this with Ertl's '66 but the project never got off the ground. Surprisingly, HW makes the only 1/18 '65 (diecast or resin ) that I'm aware of.
Thanks Chris, I've never seen that model. What a sin that it's not the coupe. The roofline styling, IMO, is what made the 2-door hrdtop so "sexy" looking as compared to the '64. 👍

Chris, did you make the w/w's thinner or wider ? I never had this model so I'm not sure which way you corrected them. Thnx.

I thinned down Ertl's whitewalls - which were simply TOO WIDE & stupid looking for 1964. Actually, mine should look MORE LIKE those seen on my black El Camino BUT they're MUCH better than Ertl's! PLEASE SEE PICS
A "whitewall job" such as this requires about 20 minutes worth of effort using ONE washer, ONE fine-tip black Sharpie marker, and quality flat black acrylic paint.
You can compare (the first 3 pics are the original Ertl ):
Dayum, your workmanship made your Impala look so much better 👍 Thanks for replying to my question. You're helping to inspire me to finish up on the models I've been customizing or at least LOL trying to customize. Out here in Buena Park California by Knott's Berry farm there's going to be a big model show on the 16th of March I can't wait to go 😁

Don't forget to post pics on the Handicrafts Forum if/when you can. 😀
@chris - Your improvements to the tires are huge to the look of the car. I've always said it! Wheels and tires make the look of a car like shoes make the look of a woman!
