For any that care, KK Scale has released their sealed-diecast 1966 Thunderbird in a variety of styles & colors.   IMO, the proportions look a bit off, but I'm sure it will sell well - as it's ONLY model of this car in 1/18 scale.   These retail between $120 - $150

At first blush they look pretty nice to me Chris. I like the color offerings a lot!

Of course I'd hate to miss all the detail finery of the engine and opening doors and trunk that the other 1/18th have.

You're right, the proportions are off!  In fact, they're WAY OFF!  That is probably why the prices are relatively low.  And since the body looks so weird, I'd have to pass on this one.  I'm quite happy with the proportions of the much better executed Danbury Mint 1965 version in 1:24 scale.

@marty-johnson, that's a beautiful model. They nailed the interior.

@bob-jackman  I think this was among DM's last efforts.  Like FM, in its final days, DM too was at the top of their game......    then the game  ended.    😔 😔 😔

I have paid my fee and this is the first time I have posted after 25 years.  I have been reviewing this site almost daily all those decades.

Regarding the KK 1:18 1966 T-Birds, here is my review:

I have a 1:1 yellow 1966 T-Bird convertible.  I am a T-Bird fan and bought every 1:24 Danbury T-Bird.  I have other scales of the 1966 T-Bird, but most are not precision.  I have ordered, and received many of the KK 1966 T-Birds.  My goal is to take the yellow hardtop, remove the hardtop, make a model of my yellow convertible.

These are not high quality precision models, but it is rare to find a 1966 T-Bird in any scale.  I have already received many of these KK 1966 T-Birds and find them exceptional.  I don't understand why some people are saying this KK model is a bad representation of of the 1:1 1966 car.

I have a yellow 1966 1:1 T-Bird convertible, and thrilled I have been able to order every KK T-Bird available.

A 25-year observer?    WOW, that's incredible!    Nice to meet you!    😀 😀 😀

Yes, IMO... these KK-Scale '66 Birds looks a bit stubby in some areas, a tad long in others, and the skirt openings are bit janky.    When I match one up with a downsized 1:1, in 1/18 scale, "my issues"  become a bit clearer.      But again, it's just my opinion, who cares?     And, as I noted, I have no doubt these will sell quite well.... I'm VERY glad you like yours.  😀 😀

After you complete your mods, perhaps you can post pics including your 1:1

Got my hands on the red one, made photos. Very nice model, will buy at least two (coupe and convertible), still picking the colors (as KK-scale has announced 4 more colors, 2 regular coupes and 2 landau top coupes). I get them at €60 in Germany. Don't see where the proportions are off, could anyone point out specifically?

No problem:

When I compare a yellow 1:1 configured as a 1/18 to the actual 1/18 model, you can see that they just don't quite match - something seems a bit off.

Specifically, when I compare your pic to a 1:1, you can see KK's tail is a bit short, the front wheel opening is too round, the skirts are a bit too droopy, the hood scoop chrome trim is too thick, the front bumper appears to protrude a tad, while the hood seems to also extend further than it should.  Lastly, the lower body panels don't appear to "roll under"  - the surfacing MAY be off (it's hard to tell on that one ).

Marty's 1/24 DM displays with greater accuracy.       Again, just my two cents, who cares what I think?     I'm glad you're happy (that's all that matters ) ...as we ALL know, there are very few, if any, perfect scale replicas.

Thank you Chris, now I see it. Agree with you on every point. About lower body panels not "rolllling under" - I'm afraid most if not all1/18 models are made that way. All Ertls and Highways and Sunstars for sure. This is an engineering trade-off - if the body is flat-sided the bottom part can be rectangular in cross-section and could be inserted easily, without pulling the body sides apart.

Agreed, many models suffer this fate and scale replicas, regardless of price point, often contain "tradeoffs."    😏    At least KK-Scale  is offering SEVERAL body style iterations AND colors, perhaps the most I've ever seen on a 1/18 initial release.   🤔 😀

@rich-sufficool 😀 😀 😀     I don't collect this scale, but yeah - that's beautifully done!   As I noted, one of DM's best efforts.
