1989 Kenworth W900 & 1977 Pontiac Trans Am Smokey and the Bandit.

Hardly a kept secret if you paid attention to the movie, Smokey and the Bandit actually featured 3 trucks, rather than one long hood Kenworth. two of them were 1974 Kenworth W900A models with silver KW emblems, while the other was the 1973 model, as it had the signature 50th-anniversary gold KW emblem atop its hood.

There is some serious scarcity of reliable intel on the whereabouts of the original trucks, but the colorful trailer that was hauled by the trucks currently lies in the open, on the property of Riverwood Studios in Senoia, GA, where The Walking Dead series is filmed. It was even featured on the 10th episode of Season 7 of the series.

The Pontiac Trans Am was actually a 1976 model year, Pontiac wanted the 1977 model used in the movie but they did not have any available yet so they gave Hal Needham the front nose cone, fenders and hood for the three Trans Am's they donated for the movie and the one to be used for the media tour to promote the movie and the car. All three of the movie cars were destroyed in the making of the movie and in the last scene of the Trans Am entering the race track at the end of the movie the car would not run any more so they pushed the car up to speed for the final shot, this was the forth Trans Am from the media tour. The first Trans Am was destroyed when they did the jump scene across the washed out bridge onto the football field, they did not calculate correctly and it was a close call with the kids and adults on the football field. Three Trans Am's were used for the movie and a forth one was for media tour to promote the movie and the car for the movie but due to the damage to the other three cars the forth Trans Am was used for shots in the movie as well. They were pulling parts from the other two Trans Am's to use on the third car to complete the movie before it was destroyed. When the third car was destroyed that was when they used the forth car pulling it from the media tour.

The exhaust sound you hear in the movie from the Trans Am is actually sound clips from the movie American Graffiti.

Thanks you John for your picture and insight. Because of a lack of space, if I had this model it would have to be parked outside which I would never do.
