Nigel Mansell, the only driver to ever hold the Formula One Wold Championship and the CART Championship at the same time
Below are the championship winning cars 1992 Williams FW14B and the 1993 Lola T93/00
For a short time Nigel Mansell was the reigning Formula One World Champion and the CART Champion at the same time.
Fun fact, Nigel Mansell missed the Phoenix race when in practice on the Saturday before race he crashed hard punching a hole in the 3 foot thick concrete wall knocking him out and rupturing his back and he still came back to win the CART championship and if not for a yellow flag with only a handful of laps to go would have won the 1993 Indy 500, Nigel Mansell had a big enough lead that he would not have been caught, however due to caution which was suspect as there was no issues on the race track, when the green flag waved Nigel was jumped on the restart and ended up finishing third.

Around that time, I was on first refusal for a Texaco commercial with Nigel Mansell that I recall was going to shoot in the Bahamas. While I was on first refusal, I got my passport so I could get into the Bahamas. It was then I learned...first refusal has no real meaning.
