Chris, thanks for the memories. As an 18 year old back in 1958, I managed to watch Chuck Daigh race the Scarab to a couple of wins on the way to the SCCA championship that year. I think Carroll Shelby also raced it and won in Colorado. Lance Reventlow, inheritor of the Woolworth fortune owned these cars and in 1960 even entered Formula 1, not too successfully, with a F1 Scarab.
The Scarabs were right hand drive except for the single one driven personally by Lance Reventlow which was left hand drive, same as your model. It was restored and raced in the early 2000s, I think using the number 16.
I remember loving the Scarabs and you're right David. Here's the car you speak of at the "Historic Races" at Laguna Seca Raceway 2005:
My intro to the Scarab came from Marshall Buck's website years ago: https://cmamodels.com/limited-editions/scarab-mk-ii/
I have a kit in 1:24
The video clip below starts at the Scarab, rewind to watch the full video ...
Hmm..... (again, I know NOTHIING about these cars ) but I think Replicarz is referring to #16 as "new," because this version has been updated a bit with fresh details, including hood hinges. 🤔 🤨
Thanks Rich.
@chris No two Scarabs were exactly alike and I would expect a Scarab with hood hinges would be rare. I'm wondering if yours was built for the street also.
