"Return us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear..." (kudos to anyone that remembers this phrase) when we used to get yearly 1/18 Zone cars. This 1968 Shelby Cobra GT500 in dark Highland Green with saddle interior was offered to us as out 4th club car as a numbered edition of 996 pieces. This is first year that this Shelby creation was given the Cobra moniker. Ironically it was the first year that Shelby was reduced to overseeing the project as Ford moved production after the Ford factory assembly in Metuchen, NJ, to A O Smith Corporation in Ionia, Michigan. Before the introduction of the GT500KR in mid season, this car was the top dog with either a 428 Police Interceptor V8 or a low riser 427 V8 with either a 3 speed C6 automatic or a 4 speed manual. This could deliver a rated 335 HP to 360 HP although they actually dyno'd at 400+.

This is a very well done model by Lane Exact Detail. The green is so dark as to be seen as black. I shouldn't have photographed it with an outdoor backdrop as it just became a myriad of reflections.

@perrone1  Ever hear the late Jay Thomas's Lone Ranger story that he repeated on David Letterman's show as a Christmas Holiday tradition?

@perrone1 OK, here you go, but there's TWO things you must know:

1) This is the BEST version of this story BUT it's the poorest quality (for some reason, all the quality videos have been deleted ).

2) The last 10 seconds, and best part, are missing - but just know that Jay says, "I swear to God, the guy goes like this - I didn't know it was you!"    The audience erupted in laughter!  😉 😉 😉

Here you are:

@perrone1 I just managed to watch the 1st 3 episodes of the Lone Ranger in 1949 that tells his origin, and how he and Tonto captured the Butch Cavendish Gang that left him for dead as a Texas Ranger. Cavendish was played by a B actor favorite, Glenn Strange. If you weren't looking for him you probably saw him in makeup as the Frankenstein monster in a series of sequels after Karloff quite the role. As a kid I used to tune in regularly to the weekly series. I even got Clayton Moore's autograph when he showed up at a supermarket opening with Silver as he was sponsored at the time by Silvercup Bread.

Thanks Chris, that's too funny! I do believe I heard that, it sounds familiar but I thought I heard it from Clayton Moore on an interview. How cool!

OMG! It may not be worth a ton of money but his autograph, FROM him, is fabulous!! I know all about the Cavendish Gang, we have the whole series. Glenn Strange returns a series or two later, first as Cavendish again, having escaped prison and in other episodes as a sheriff and town's person. Of course you know that John Hart played the Ranger in the entire third season.

I love the beginning, in B&W where the story is established. I am one of the hundreds of Wikipedia editors and actually edited in half the TV show Premise for the Lone Ranger - TV Show:

I never knew his version existed; I'd love to hear that!  👍
